Long name for Cuddy

We're expecting our second baby and I am really keen on Cuddy as a name, which is usually a nickname for Cuthbert. We live in Northumberland so it has connection to St Cuthbert. But my husband isn't keen on Cuthbert, but only likes Cuddy if it's a nickname for something else. Any suggestions for what the birth name could be if we shorten to Cuddy?

Cudmore?

WinterLobelia · 25/01/2024 09:54

Cuddington?

CharlesChickens · 25/01/2024 09:54

I thought it could be a nn for Christopher ?

Bbq1 · 25/01/2024 09:56

Mmm... You might want to rethink Cuddy. It's not a nice name. Okay if only family use it i guess.

Babla · 25/01/2024 09:57

Cuddy?!

Awful

Kwam31 · 25/01/2024 10:01

Seriously awful name, unless you're def sending to private school, can see this as a nickname with rugby/rowing chums or a farmer.

Icouldbehappy · 25/01/2024 10:02

Sorry, but that’s a dreadful name.

Heckythump1 · 25/01/2024 10:02

Oh wow, don't do that to your poor child!

PriscillaQueenOfTheDesserts · 25/01/2024 10:03

No
Just no

Zoomerang · 25/01/2024 10:04

I think you could have pretty much any name beginning with C or K, and use Cuddy at home.

Or in fact, anything at all. We call DD1 something totally different to her name (but she’s always the proper one at school).

Go with anything you love, because I suspect Cuddy as a NN won’t last.

hellsBells246 · 25/01/2024 10:05

Cuddy is a nn for horse. Awful.

fulgrate · 25/01/2024 10:05

Cuddy means horse to me

DillDanding · 25/01/2024 10:06

Cuddy? 😂😂 Poor kid.

OhNoCleo · 25/01/2024 10:08

What about a name starting with cu and a middle name starting with d? Nick name Cuddy.

Cullan Daniel?
Curtis Dean?

PuppySnores · 25/01/2024 10:08

Conrad?

BeauSignoles · 25/01/2024 10:09

When you say Cuddy aloud it sounds like you have a blocked nose. Don’t do it OP, give him a name he can choose a nickname from later.

Terfosaurus · 25/01/2024 10:09

I've never heard Cuddy before. Why not pick a name you like and then use Cuddy as a nickname at home?
My son is called "Pickle" it's got naff all to do with his actual name.

Triskelled · 25/01/2024 10:09

Cuddy as in ‘chewing the cud’ and the other doctor in House (though it was her surname)?

It’s a slightly baffling choice. I know it mostly as a nickname for people whose surname is Cudmore, so it’s like calling your child Sully or Smithy to me.

FatherJackHackettsUnderpantsHamper · 25/01/2024 10:12

Wasn't there a (female) character in House (the one with Hugh Laurie) called Cuddy?

As Cuddy is often a nickname for a left-hander, you could always 'think outside the box' (like an old clue on 321!) and name him Dexter, meaning right-handed?! I'm not going to suggest naming him Sinister... !

Alternatively, you could always call him Kurt, known informally as Kuddy/Cuddy.

Pokt · 25/01/2024 10:14

Kirkcudbright

ApocalypseNowt · 25/01/2024 10:15

Mr Cuddles

FatherJackHackettsUnderpantsHamper · 25/01/2024 10:16

Cody is a not-uncommon name - and would probably sound quite similar to Cuddy in a Geordie/NE accent.

Pokt · 25/01/2024 10:16

Cudrenia

ApocalypseNowt · 25/01/2024 10:15

Mr Cuddles

If you want him to sound like a children's 'entertainer' that you wouldn't let your children within 100 miles of!

MirandaBlu · 25/01/2024 10:19

Cuthbert doesn't even have a D in it. You could just as logically go with anything starting with a C/K and containing a d or other similar sound -

Caden
Cadmus
Caldwell
Chad
Claude/Claudio/Claudius
Cedric
Clifford
Clyde
Conrad
Constantine
Cornelius
Kendall
Kendrick
Kennedy
etc.
