I’ve mentioned this before but I met a Kurdish couple whose baby girl is called N**ga (pronounced exactly like the racist word).

They had recently emigrated to the UK so couldn’t have known. I haven’t seen them in a while but their daughter is school age now so I do wonder whether they changed her name / gave her a nickname.

I worked with a lad whose real name was Pak-He. He went by the name of Paco.

MrsMarzetti · 19/01/2024 12:51

A little girl called Annfield, Father was a Liverpool fan.

DinaofCloud9 · 19/01/2024 12:51

Sisters called Jersey and Gypsy.
Girl called Halo.
Boy called Storm.

Kaiser, at a soft play.

Zion, at a baby group (though his family may have been religious so perhaps not that unusual)

Electra, again at a baby group.

Have come across a handful of Zion’s, mostly connected to Rastafarian or ‘hippy’ families. I would have had Zion on the list if I ever had a boy!

I know a Bow Bunny and walked past an Emperor in tesco!

wonderinglywondering · 19/01/2024 12:52

2 baby boy twins, Ace and Atlas. I love that tbh

useitorlose · 19/01/2024 12:52

Sapphire
Sterling
Blu (last name was not Tack!)
Margarita (like the pizza/drink)
Deejay

sharptoothlemonshark · 19/01/2024 12:52

I've recently had my second Deja-Vu, and I've also had a couple of Jet'aimes. I don't like names with apostrophes and accents in them, it is very inconvenient in a world where we type all the time, mostly for the child themselves. They are very common though

Sonora25 · 19/01/2024 12:53

Bunny (she was an adult in a very senior role) definitely her real name not a nickname.

Scorchio84 · 19/01/2024 12:53

I had a boy named "Gift" in a previous school, haven't come across one since

"Ignatius" to Iggy is nice & I also like "Ghetti" but I wouldn't spell it like that
*Edited for spelling D'oh

Fraaahnces · 19/01/2024 12:53

I met someone called Jaw D’uhn. He HAAAAATED it. He said his parents were “fucking stoners” and he wanted to study law. He had no intention of applying until after he had legally changed his name.

Why is Margarita on a list of unusual names? One the world's most common, surely!

stillplentyofjunkinthetrunk · 19/01/2024 12:53

@banjocat a child named after an urban myth is not the weirdest baby name I've come across on the internet, but probably weirder than any I've met personally.

I don't know it's hard to answer, lots of names I've only ever met one person called that so I suppose they'd all be equally unusual.

@orangegato Loki was on our shortlist (a long time ago) but given the movies etc. that have come out since I'm glad we didn't pick it.

@Mittemucci the local rumour mill said he was "unwanted". I always thought that sad.

The Zero I taught was named for ‘the beggining’ ‘the start of all things’

I knew of a sibling group, all named after alcoholic drinks. There was a Jack Daniel, Tia Maria & Tequila Rose.

Then the most gorgeous African child called Stone-Gold.

ThirtyThrillionThreeTrees · 19/01/2024 12:54

The Dutch politican- Tiny Kox

No idea why he would consider using his nickname like this.

Yes, Margarita is a lovely name, and not at all uncommon.

Bloody hell Deja-Vu! that's crazy

PurpleBrain · 19/01/2024 12:55

orangegato · 19/01/2024 12:55

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 19/01/2024 12:50

Was that the child's full name or 3 separate children

3 poor little sods.

Here we go... bear in mind I have a 20 year teaching career so have encountered some interesting names...

Rock
Wednesday
Auburn
Tuesday Blue
Indigo
Xevia
Aspidistra
A female colleague called John (dad drunk when he registered her, forgot he'd had a daughter so gave the name he was going to give a boy, refused to change it out of sheer stubborness)
Apple Tang
Vanilla
Peaches
Lorry
Miami
Cuba
Avila (but I love this name)
Vienetta
Tygga
James Tiberius Kirk
Anakin
Leia Skywalker
Luv-Anna
The tiniest boy in Year 7 "Horatio"
Armstrong (also love this as he was a preemie who wasn't expected to live and was left with lifelong neurological illness so they wanted to give him an aspirational name after both Lance and Neil)
Khaleesi (x 7)
Wolfric
Buzz
Lemonie (misheard on a greek holiday)
A recent five year old "Alan Carr"
Lady Bianca (at a private school, we thought she was officially titled but it turned out she was named after her grandads dog)
A very white red headed northern child named Moesha after the TV show
Ronaldo
Rooney
Beckham
Ferguson
Cantona (girl)
Middle name - Chelsea FC also a girl
Sibset, Honey, Cherry and Currie

And...on to the shamelessly alcohol inspired names...

Remi Brandie
Jack Daniel
Johnny Walker
Tia Maria
Malibu (ahhh, like the beach? "No, miss like Malibu n Coke")
Boddington (my grandad loved Boddingtons beers and he loved me just as much, miss)
Moet
Chandon
Lanson
Cristalle
Asti

Oddly the name that got my back up the most was Oceana Blu.

laclochette · 19/01/2024 12:56

@useitorlose the pizza was named after the lady! (First queen of Italy)

A bit like Mercedes, which was also a name first and then given to a product named after an individual, the fame of the product in some cultures at least surpasses familiarity with the name

sharptoothlemonshark · 19/01/2024 12:56

I am enjoying this thread. I hope any owners of these unusual names feels like we are appreciating them positively.
