It wasn’t - how is the deity name pronounced??? If not just “bastard”?

Its Bastet. But pronounced with a long “a” . Together with Nut 🌰 it would be quite something.

Not a name that was given to a child but I just remembered this....

Just like to make clear that quite a few cocktails had been imbibed. Friend said she had recently heard a name that she loved and if she had a dd she would definitely name her this.....Parenthesis.

Much confusion all round. Was she sure? Lots of hysterical laughter and silly jokes, but no she was adamant. Anyway after much back and forth it turned out she meant Persephone! Still makes me laugh thinking about it and this was donkeys years ago! She named her DD in the Charlotte/Isabel/Olivia sphere in the end, said she couldnt think about Persephone without bursting out laughing so that was never going to happen!

Amythyst-Moonstone is probably the most curious so far….

Calliopespa · 19/01/2024 22:38

Amethyst is actually quite cute on a little girl. Not so sure about the Moonstone.

Dont like Moonstone but amethyst yes, I really do like that. And it could easily be shortened to Amy if preferred.

I’ve met a Precious and Renezmae,
Ryder and an Armani.
Also met a couple Kairo’s recently.

CeciledeVolangesdeNouveau · 19/01/2024 23:01

Oh my goodness.

Renesmee was bad enough, also looks like neither Meyer nor Bella cba with an accent so they just added an extra E.

But that spelling? Imagine learning how to write that aged three.

Fuckmyliferightnow · 19/01/2024 23:06

Cosmo

selfishmeow · 19/01/2024 23:07

I also know a Precious, Shanel and Renezmae. I was recently delivered food by Julius Caesar on Deliveroo.

CeciledeVolangesdeNouveau · 19/01/2024 23:12

I don’t know why and I know there’s probably a cultural reason so this is terribly bad but somehow Julius Caesar is the funniest.

@CeciledeVolangesdeNouveau I think it's very cultural. In my ds's class through nursery and primary school, we met quite a few children named after Greek Gods and Roman Emperors. It was funny with the Deliveroo driver though as DH was asking when our curry was arriving and I said Julius Caesar is delivering it on a bike so it should take a little longer 😅

Marcipex · 19/01/2024 23:24

Siobhan pronounced Sigh o ban ‘we went for the traditional pronunciation’. It was difficult to arrange my face for that one.

ilovepixie · 19/01/2024 23:26

A boy called Sonny Beau

maybe its a generational thing - in my day Moss, Stacey, Crystal ( various spellings) Cheyenne were all common.

But older than me, so would now be 80s, 90s maybe? and the generations below me are no familiar with these names

Well that took a long time for me to break down - it was Fennel, a girl, and Basil, a boy, and mentioned them because of the large number of middle names and the very odd decision to basically play a word game with their children’s names.

Oh final one! Please don’t try to guess this one because it is so rare it really would be outing but I went to school with a girls whose father was an Egyptologist. Her names (Egyptian deities) were not pronounced as they were written in any way and in fourteen years a teacher never got them right first time. Her middle name was also Nut, pronounced newt. Also an Egyptian goddess and I’m sure it was goddess of something cool but it was less cool to bestow on a young girl.

Love these your school was full of amazing names.

In this thread I’ve seen lots of names I would pick if I had more children, two being the names I would have given a girl. I love slightly different things.

LuckyPeonies · 19/01/2024 23:28

Eighmay, pronounced Amy. 🙄

banjocat · 19/01/2024 11:50

I didn't know this and will just duck out of the thread now. I didn't mean to offend anyone but I did meet a child with this name - maybe her parents had named her after the myth or something, I'm not sure.

You should stick around. If you met a person truly called this then nothing anyone else says matters.
