I knew of a lady called Jewel, about 60 years ago and she was late middle aged then.

Also Beau Bridges is a hollywood actor, son of Lloyd Bridges and brother of Jeff Bridges, so it's not a new name. Also may come from Beau Geste (googled : Beau geste is a phrase borrowed from French; the literal translation is "beautiful gesture." Beau Geste is also the title of a 1924 novel by Percival Christopher Wren, featuring three English brothers who join the French Foreign Legion to repair their family honor)

Beau was also the name of President Biden's late son.

Matthias, Aloysius, Peregrine and Rosebud (godchildren, the first is the father to the last two, whilst A is his brother/their uncle).
My neighbour's granddaughter is Nevaeh (again, thought it was an urban myth until neighbour's daughter told me the baby's name...).
My oldest went to school with a Bow Spear (female).
My youngest's best mate is Rowan Ash (male).
Mercy.
Trinity.
Elenelle.
Hera.
Morpheus.

I am always intrigued in name threads - because what to one person may seem... a little odd, to the parent or person who chose the name... it's anything but.

I worked at a photography agency who represented a famous photographer, he publicly changed his name to something slightly less ridiculous but kept his legal name for everything else and we had to deal with his legal documents from time to time.

legal name was, no joke, rumplestiltskin.

his parents were old school hippies if that makes a difference.

Great and Bright (2 brothers from a Nigerian family). Other family members had similar names but I can't remember them now as it's a number of years since I taught one of them.

Old work colleague called Lollipop Sunshine. We called her Sunnie, lovely lady. Name suited her 🍭☀️
She moved to UK from Thailand about 20 years ago.

Zinzan

If you google it it comes up with a NZ rugby player, but I don't think the parents have any connections with NZ or rugby so I have no idea where it came from!

One of my useless bits of trivia is that particular NZ rugby player had the full name Zinzan Valentine Brook.

Piecarumba · 19/01/2024 17:59

There’s an influencer I follow on insta who has an older son Taz and has just had twins Savvy (F) and Ziggy (M). Never met anyone with those names before!

InstrumentsofTorture · 19/01/2024 18:02

I knew a South African woman whose son was called Wayne. However, she used to call him Wanky.

@MrsJellybee Siobhan is not unusual or uncommon. Shocked at how many people Beau unusual!

There's an elderly lady in my village whose brother was called "Beau".

There were several girls named "Fanny" in our family genealogy trees.

Ladybird

OMG, my DD who was 2 at the time wanted to call her little sister Ladybird!
We didn't do it though because that would have been bonkers

Fluffywhitecloudsinthesky · 19/01/2024 18:11

I know a Loveday, this is a proper name!

Dickon was the boy in The Secret Garden.

One of my useless bits of trivia is that particular NZ rugby player had the full name Zinzan Valentine Brook.

I think that name had Italian origins and kind of morphed in use. I have known a Zinzan and he was called Xan for short.

dorry678 · 19/01/2024 18:13

I know Dotty Beau.

I had never heard of a female Beau.

I mean, at least give the child one good name!! Barrister, high court judge... nope.

CurlewKate · 19/01/2024 18:14

FYI- names from cultures different to yours are not "random". They are names from cultures different to yours. Some of them will also be direct translations because us Brits are so crap at pronouncing names from other language.

I met a child called La-a. With that spelling. Pronounced Ladasha.

I kid you not - this was in a professional capacity and that was how her name was written on her records.

I still can't quite believe it!

I think we must work for the same authority! 😂

brieandbacon · 19/01/2024 18:17

A little boy called Ikea. Yes really!

PurBal · 19/01/2024 18:20

Rainbow
Danger
Quinn (sorry, I know people like it but it sounds and looks like quim, just foul)

imnotthatkindofmum · 19/01/2024 18:22

Tor-Christian.

Neither that out there on their own but such a random combination to hyphenate.

Jagley · 19/01/2024 18:22

Kiwi
Brothers Coast and Stream
Fox, although that's becoming more popular I think.

AlpacalypseLlamaggedon · 19/01/2024 18:26

I met a 7yo little boy called Columbo recently.

Mulhollandmagoo · 19/01/2024 18:26

We went to a baby group with a little girl called Neveah, I love it! Some of these names are lovely, I wish I'd had the confidence to name my child something a bit different.
