I know someone who had a baby fairly recently and called her Banks. I think it’s lovely, had never heard it before.

Banks is gorgeous! Likewise I've never heard it before

Tippi
Charity
Angel
Trinity

The two below were brothers at a children’s party. Mum gave the letters as the boys names as the party was at restaurant with a children’s play area and the names get put where the children are sitting. I have no way of confirming though if they were the boys given names or nicknames.

These threads often turn racist. I think this one might have down already.....

Just in case it hasn't- I know a Story. Which to my utter amazement, I quite like.

There was a lawyer at my firm (US branch so I never met her) called Cupcake Brown. That's my favourite name ever I think. Also I think of her when people on the baby name boards say that Missy or Ella-Mae or whoever won't be able to be judges. Cupcake was not a judge but she was a very well paid lawyer at a big firm.

She's an author too. She had a bestselling memoir published a few years ago.

Plenty of Nigerians are Christian...

I know. I was saying I think they’re Nigerian, but I know they’re Christians. The comma is key. I wasn’t saying I think they’re Nigerian but they’re Christians so maybe not.

IngridMcDonald · 19/01/2024 17:18

I worked with a woman called Hong Kong. I know a boy called Shadow and a girl called Betsy Boo.
Funny thing is, you get used to the people and their names and they seem normal after a while.

Yikes. I think it's really awful.

Passable, at a push, on a boy. But on a girl? Big fat no from me.

The worst kind of preppy.

One of our art technicians at college had a daughter called Red Roses. Definitely never come across one of those again!

Are you in southport ?

Ah, I'm with you, sorry.

I have a teacher friend who once taught a boy named Denim.

His surname? Jacket.

What's wrong with Elspeth? Good Scottish name, I know a few of them.

Nothing wrong with it - I actually stole it for my 2nd dd. Just felt pretty random in amongst all the Rosie’s Rubys and Chloe’s.

It is very "preppy" so I'm not sure many people could pull it off but I like it, inevitable though she'd be "Banksy" 😆

Not a will, not a Bill, a WILLY.

My next door neighbour when I was a nipper was a Willy Williams!

SoOutingWhoCares · 19/01/2024 17:31

I would have hated to have been called Banks.

Sounds like a cat or dog name, not a female human.

27Mankinis · 19/01/2024 17:32

Distant cousin of my mother's was called Anthony Anthony. I'd be pissed at my parents tbh if they could not think of something other than that.

PopcornBandit · 19/01/2024 17:32

I once came across a child called Blue-J…

I was equally confused and impressed by this choice of name for a child!

I wonder if South is because of North
