A lot of the names people think are outlandish are Catholic Saints names (and common amongst Catholic families).

St Ignatius (founder of the Jesuits and Ignatian Spirituality)
St Blaise (patron of sore throats)
St Peregrine (patron of cancer sufferers)
St Cosmo (usually celebrated alongside St Damien)

Nefertiti. On a children’s hospital announcement board, so definitely not hisheard. It’s a lot to live up to.

Research was made into birth records when this first started doing the rounds and was proven to be untrue.

Someone is having you on or you are continuing the urban myth.

It's definitely an urban myth! It's been doing the rounds for years. Usually along with Pocahontas McGinty. Also proved to be an urban myth.

And the twins Oranjello and Lemonjello.

Blade

There are a fair few of those from Sheffield. I taught a student who came from Sheffield and it was his middle name because his dad is a Sheffield United fan.

Bananabreadandstrawberries · 19/01/2024 15:01

I also met a “Lord Prince” which was a bit of a shocker!

bananamonkey · 19/01/2024 15:02

I love Tuesday! Not brave enough to use it though.

Also had a colleague Venetia, pronounced Ven-net-tia rather than Veneesha, she was Greek, always thought it was really pretty.

and went to school with James James.

I know a Lark, he’s a bit annoying rather than fun.

Not unusual but my kids are friends with Susan and Mavis which always tickles me.

Teuchterlass · 19/01/2024 15:02

My Mum had guests stay and the father was called Rusty Knight and daughter was Stormy Knight.
I don’t know if the father’s was his given name, but his daughter was definitely christened Stormy.

We have a Nevaeh (mostly spelled wrong on this thread) in my son's class and she's a lovely girl just to provide a balance to the others!

It's unusual to me, that's why I put it in this thread. I've only come across one.

ImJustMadAboutSaffron · 19/01/2024 15:05

@bananamonkey Someone I know's dad is called James James but for I would imagine obvious reasons he's always called Jimmy or Jim.

mimbleandlittlemy · 19/01/2024 15:05

Finale - because it was this woman's last child. Finale's older sister was called Winter because that's when she was born. The mum went in for marvellously literal names.

MikeRafone · 19/01/2024 15:06

I know of Destiny, think it's a lovely name and love Serendipity, winder if she was?

NotGoingToLie · 19/01/2024 15:06

A poor little boy in NZ called Ruthless-Enoure Soulja Reign Rhind Shephard Wall. His name was the least of it sadly, poor child was brutally killed. He never had a chance from the start.

SnapdragonToadflax · 19/01/2024 15:06

Tesla. I thought it must be Tessa at first (looked like a boy, but...) But no. Definitely Tesla.
