Confusgurl · 03/01/2024 14:39

im expecting my first child a little girl and wondered what people thought to the name Caroline with the nickname ‘caggie’?

Middle name would be Mia, so Caroline ‘Caggie’ Mia. Or Caroline Mia. NOT double barrel can I add.

Absolutely love it!

Shadowsindarkplaces · 03/01/2024 14:40

I would have thought Carrie is more usual, never heard Caggie..

ently · 03/01/2024 14:40

I love Caroline but not keen on Caggy

ohdamnitjanet · 03/01/2024 14:41

First thing that came to mind was Claggie, which isn’t great….

Caggie was the nickname used for a Caroline in the first Made in Chelsea series.

Caggie 😫 so unbelievably ugly, why would you inflict that on a lovely little girl? Sounds like aggy, claggy, baggie...not a nice sound at all.

AllyBugs · 03/01/2024 14:41

Caggie is a word for cagoule in my world - so it would be a no from me

This!

Confusgurl · 03/01/2024 14:42

I think ‘Caggie’ will be a love hate haha but we also loved Caroline so she has the option for that as she gets older!
We thought it flowed really nice with the middle name aswell

'Caggy'? Urgh.

Comedycook · 03/01/2024 14:43

Caggie is the ultimate posh girl nickname.

Nothing necessarily wrong with that if that's what you like...but she'll need friends with similar type nicknames....Bunty, Flic etc

Floralnomad · 03/01/2024 14:45

Caroline is lovely, Caggie is dreadful and also doesn’t sound like a natural NN for Caroline to me .

Onelife2024 · 03/01/2024 14:46

I love Caroline, but you have the lovely options of Callie or Carrie as nn’s, so I personally wouldn’t choose Caggie

Whataretheodds · 03/01/2024 14:48

Lots of posh girl nicknames are ugly or infantile.

I prefer the sound of Carrie or Callie.

Or Taggie (for Agatha à la Jilly Cooper).

LuckyVoila · 03/01/2024 14:49

Sorry just reminds me of Caggie Dunlop from Made In Chelsea. Terrible name IMO

Confusgurl · 03/01/2024 14:49

So it seems a hard no for ‘Caggie’ haha!
Funny how people take some names as I don’t see it as an ‘ugly’ name at all!

I love Caroline but find Caggie a very ugly and clunky sounding nickname. I like Carrie much better

Yoyoban · 03/01/2024 14:50

Caggie is awful.

Caroline is fine, possible decent nicknames: Caz, Caro, Cara, Carrie, Lina

sunshinesupermum · 03/01/2024 14:50

Caggie sounds dreadful to me, sorry. Carrie if you must shorten her name at all.

LuckyVoila · 03/01/2024 14:50

Caroline is just very dated full stop IMO

TokyoSushi · 03/01/2024 14:51

I suppose if you are vair posh OP then it could work.

Otherwise Caroline, lovely, Caggie, absolutely no!

Jessforless · 03/01/2024 14:51

Are you quite posh OP? If she will be in school with similarly named people, you’re golden.

but if she’s going to the local comprehensive I’m not sure Caggie should be a thing.

msbevvy · 03/01/2024 14:51

In some regions caggy handed is used as an alternative for kack handed.
As kack handed is derived from a word for shit I would be reluctant to saddle a little girl with the name.

SoupDragon · 03/01/2024 14:51

Caroline is lovely. Caggie is just dreadful - I immediate hear "claggy"

Notalldogs23 · 03/01/2024 14:51

Caggie sounds too much like Claggie to me - and my phone autocorrected it to 'ciggies'. Kids may well call her Claggie or ciggies in secondary school based on this - you can't control nicknames.

Also doesn't seem like a nickname for Caroline - I would think Caro as the short version for Caroline, which I really like.
