Hello everyone!

I am 5 months pregnant, and my wife and I are having a hard time agreeing. After weeks of "arguing", we decided to forget about all the previous names suggested before and make a new list.
I absolutely hate all the names she wrote down :

  • Bradleigh ( her favourite)
  • Dallas
  • Paris
  • Lisandry
  • Helen ( The only one I like)

Whereas my favourite names are:

  • Romy ( She likes it but not love it)
  • Dahlia
  • Neva

She is so sure, those are pretty names. Pleaaase help, she'll be reading all the comments!

Try the 'choose one' method and pick at random from a baby names list.

So Isobel or Helena
Then the winner against the next, and next and so on.

You might surprise yourself. If you instinctively pick the same name over many others then you like it. You have to give an instant answer, no deliberating.

It's easy to over think so test your gut reactions instead.

If nothing else it's a fun game for an hour rather than an argument!

Humbugg · 12/12/2023 22:26

Go for Helena or Romily

If you like more traditional names why is your own list so bad? And having a baby is not pushing a water melon out,

what ever you name this child, they are a person. A human, so try to be serious. I assume your thread is a piss take, the haha isn’t it funny, we want to name our kid something awful and think it’s like pushing a water melon out.

yeah, funny if you’re 12.

Mmmm I was quoting the lady who told me " Your wife will be the one pushing a watermelon out", because somehow some people struggled to understand that we both are women.

They’re all awful and mainly sound like stripper names.

Oh dear Hahhha this made me laugh …. Hate to say it but they kinda do

Demainsdeslaube · 12/12/2023 22:26

@Calmdown14 Thank you so much ❤️

What about Della? Similar to Dallas but with the a sound you like?

Demainsdeslaube · 12/12/2023 22:28

Chouette77 · 12/12/2023 22:19

Romy is a lovely name, as is Helen. Lisandry sounds like an infectious disease

Lisandry is a family name of one of her relative that she loves dearly.

I like Emma, then Helen.

All pretty bad.

The first four of your wife’s are very chavvy… Like Porsche or Mercedes.

Dahlia and Neva also awful.

Romy makes me think of Boris Johnston.

Bradley would be nice - there is a character in the morning show called that.

Helena would be lovely (could get Lena for short).

I think you both need to go back to the drawing board.

PeggyPoggleshaw · 12/12/2023 22:28

How about Peggy? Or Gertrude?

RealBigBarbie · 12/12/2023 22:28

They’re all incredibly awful imo

Chouette77 · 12/12/2023 22:29

Googling Lisandry now and it seems more common in Spain/Argentina. It's growing on me a bit!

Frasers · 12/12/2023 22:29

SauronsArsehole · 12/12/2023 22:25

if she wants something from unusual then suggest good historical names

Boudicca
Artimesia
Beatrix
Galswintha
Brunhild
Ulrika

all were queens though history.

you could also go with goddesses and deities

hera
venus
Sabrina
brigid
ceridwen

some of these are just as bad as the initial list (in that kids are dicks to each other and some will get more flak that other’s) but it’s a good starting point that might draw you closer to some big standard English names.

These are even worse.

Diaria · 12/12/2023 22:29

Demainsdeslaube · 12/12/2023 22:28

Lisandry is a family name of one of her relative that she loves dearly.

Yes but it sounds like a disease like dysentery.

teaandtoastwithmarmite · 12/12/2023 22:30

The only one I like is Romy but all the other names are awful. Sorry

LiquoriceAllsorts2 · 12/12/2023 22:31

Both lists are terrible. If I had to pick I would go with Paris

TommyNever · 12/12/2023 22:31

I personally wouldn't choose any of those names (Helen's OK) but I'd especially steer clear of of Lisandry, which sounds like some kind of disfiguring disease.

dorajean · 12/12/2023 22:31

Demainsdeslaube · 12/12/2023 22:13

It's a baby girl. Hence the eigh in Bradley. I personally do not like boys' name for girls.

If my wife had her way, she'd name our baby Carter or Parker.

Sounds like she’s fond of gender neutral names - maybe you could look for any gender neutral names you like and see if she likes them too? E.g. Jordan, Bailey (or Baileigh!), Danny/Dani, Charlie/Charley/Charleigh (could be a nickname for Charlotte, which is more traditional), Stevie, Jessie, Kerry, Sam, Taylor etc.

Personally, the only names I like from your OP are Helen and Dahlia!

I wonder if she likes ‘Leigh’ names too?? There’s some choice with that. (Some ideas here):

Also Leigh-Anne or similar is an option.

And someone else’s idea of flower names might be worth looking into, as they are often more traditional so you might like them.

Keep looking! Good luck!

8 months pregnant myself having the same debate with my partner so this thread brought me great joy Grin hope you decide quicker than we have op! There’s an app called kinder which you can connect profiles n input last name n both swipe on baby names n it shows what one’s you match on, I’ve had no luck on it and some of the names are rather out there but worth a try as there’s some very unique ones on there so might find something down both your alleys with the bonus of it only showing which you match rather than which ones she swiped on vs which ones you did so lessens the debates over one liking and other not Grin

Demainsdeslaube · 12/12/2023 22:28

Lisandry is a family name of one of her relative that she loves dearly.

Maybe Lisa should be the name then? Homage to that family member and it's classic

XelaM · 12/12/2023 22:33

I love Helen though. It's one of my favourite names

Actually Della is quite sweet. I think it’s short for Cordelia.

HoppingPavlova · 12/12/2023 22:33

Agree, all no good . Helen is the best if a really bad bunch. The first list is by someone trying to be younique but failing miserably.

swimsong · 12/12/2023 22:34

Would you consider Helena? I think it's way better than Helen (boring).

wishingiwas20something · 12/12/2023 22:34

BlazingJune · 12/12/2023 22:14

Blue as a girl's name.

Great. Especially if the surname is Brown, or White or Black.

How ridiculous.

Which bit is ridiculous? Would Blue for a boy not be ridiculous? So should a girl be called Pink? In my opinion Bluebell Green would be an amazing name. I’m curious of your reasoning. The world definitely already has enough Helen’s.
