Hello everyone!

I am 5 months pregnant, and my wife and I are having a hard time agreeing. After weeks of "arguing", we decided to forget about all the previous names suggested before and make a new list.
I absolutely hate all the names she wrote down :

  • Bradleigh ( her favourite)
  • Dallas
  • Paris
  • Lisandry
  • Helen ( The only one I like)

Whereas my favourite names are:

  • Romy ( She likes it but not love it)
  • Dahlia
  • Neva

She is so sure, those are pretty names. Pleaaase help, she'll be reading all the comments!

All of those names are absolutely horrific but yours are dreadful too! Scrap the lot start again when you aren’t sniffing glue.

masterblaster · 14/12/2023 18:53

They are all terrible except Helen.

Bradleigh in particular will be explaining forever that they are not a boy / man.

Lisandry sounds like misandry.

Just call the kid Kate. She can shorten it to Kat if she wants to be edgy.

Was Bradleigh meant for a girl 😮 (hence the weird spelling). Definite no if that’s the case.

PumpkinsAndCoconuts · 14/12/2023 19:24

Helen and Dahlia are fine.

I don’t like any of the others (yours included)!

Helen Dahlia Surname.

Pamalot · 14/12/2023 19:27

Remember your poor kid aswell as a hyphenated surname is going to have to spell out these names. Poor thing. Bradleigh is because of The Morning Show TV programme? How about Sophie/Sophia, Emma or Lucy. Classics that will last forever and wont have to be spelt out.

Sallywag134 · 14/12/2023 19:27

Although Helen is probably the best (IMO) I also think it’s a very dated name. Most people called Helen are probably around 50….at least where I live. 🤷🏻‍♀️

Illhaveasaladandasideofchipsplease · 14/12/2023 19:29

I can't remember the name of the app but it's basically like tinder for baby names. You swipe left/right and so does your wife and then it'll tell you when there's a match. It might throw out some names you've never considered but both end up liking x

Bookloverjay · 14/12/2023 19:29

I love these names
Helen
Margo
Mairead
Romy
Remy

I also like boys names for girls like,
Dylan
Cameron
Sydney

I also like names that would be considered out there like

Royal

Daire
Cora

Viviennemary · 12/12/2023 21:28

The only reasonable name is Helen. I quite like it

Lisandry - is that a name or a typo

Your list is no better than hers. All absolutely dire.

I agree.

Helen is the only one I'd consider, top - but hey, ho, we're all different.

Sorry OP - nether of your choices are to my taste other than Helen.

nomadmummy · 14/12/2023 19:30

Here’s a spin for you to consider - Dalyce

if her names are terrible….so are yours

FeetupTvon · 14/12/2023 19:33

Lorena is a beautiful name.

rickobucks · 14/12/2023 19:34

Your problem is that apart from one (Helen), you've both chosen modern (and slightly woke) names. Your problem is that these names will forever date your child with these times and as time goes on will look more and more look old fashioned and become more associated with old people.
Take a leaf out of Royalty and look at history with great names coming down the centuries. Good names will never date.

SuperBlondie28 · 14/12/2023 19:34

VanityDiesHard · 14/12/2023 18:55

Huh? That makes no sense. Ellen is a really old fashioned name, I think. Much more so than Helen, which is timeless (think Helen of Troy)

I used to work in a call centre and if ever a customer asked for my name, I'd say 'Helen'. They'd always repeat back 'Ellen' and I'd correct them. After a while, I'd just give up 🤷🏼‍♀️

HelenEilidh · 14/12/2023 19:36

My two friends had exactly the same problem and they were still arguing about what to call their baby on the way to register the birth. At which point the taxi driver stepped in and said ‘my son is called Leon - good name for a boy and a good name for a man’. So they called their son Leon (he’s a teenager now). Hopefully you’ll resolve it before that stage though 😀

Learnsometjingeveryday · 14/12/2023 19:37

My children have some some unusual names
Like Ellesse-jade
Tianna-leigh
Lacey-rae
And my boys are Tyrone-kai
Archie and Billy (most normal lol)
And I didn't pick any apart from last 2 but out of all I like Romy and maybe Helen with a a ?
Bradleigh just no not spelt like that
Yours are better but I woukd say try and agree or mix two .as u can see I don't always go with the norm , but some of them are just like she is trying to secretly wind u up then come out with name thatu say oh that's not so bad we will go with that
Maybe
Romy-leigh
Helena-Paris
Dallas-marie x

LaDamaDeElche · 14/12/2023 19:37

Christina is a name, Cristina is not what are you on about? Names e is it outside the IK with different spellings. It very much is a name.

HurkleDurkling · 14/12/2023 19:38

Neva sounds like Never.
Romy sounds like the travelling community.
Delilah the child will constantly hear ‘My my my Delilah’
Helen - Dull but best of the suggestions.
Bradley - even with the accepted spelling, is questionable.
Lisandry - this must be a joke.
There are many great names but don’t give a name your child will spend time constantly spelling.
Oh dear! There are so many lovely names and your precious baby deserves a decent name. I still think this must be a joke.
When in doubt about names go to the Bible or Royal family.
Hope baby and mummy are well.

Tessabelle74 · 14/12/2023 19:38

They're all horrible! No help at all though, sorry!

LaDamaDeElche · 14/12/2023 19:38

LaDamaDeElche · 14/12/2023 19:37

Christina is a name, Cristina is not what are you on about? Names e is it outside the IK with different spellings. It very much is a name.

I'll try that again in English - names exist outside of the U.K. with different spellings

Endlessfun · 14/12/2023 19:39

Helen is fine. Most of the others....sorry, but no. Lisandry sounds like some obscure type of psychological hang-up.

ElizaMulvil · 14/12/2023 19:41

Romy etc are all dire. You can also rule out any that are over 6 letters long . sound like a disease, sound like a boy's name, are made up, twee etc.

Think of this poor child being the butt of 'what'! 'how on earth do you spell that?' "I though that was a boy's name - are you transitioning?' etc etc all life long. She'll be changing it asap no doubt.

Try something she has a fighting chance of spelling aged 5. Think Anna, Rosa etc.

AnneValentine · 14/12/2023 19:43

Lisaandry sounds like a close relative of dysentery.

FreddieMercurysCat · 14/12/2023 19:43

Romy is ok, Helen is acceptable, the others are bloody awful.

MillieMinx · 14/12/2023 19:44

I think you both need to start new lists and have a look through some baby name books! Those names sound like strippers (in my opinion) and I’d feel sorry for any child name as such!!
