Hello everyone!

I am 5 months pregnant, and my wife and I are having a hard time agreeing. After weeks of "arguing", we decided to forget about all the previous names suggested before and make a new list.
I absolutely hate all the names she wrote down :

  • Bradleigh ( her favourite)
  • Dallas
  • Paris
  • Lisandry
  • Helen ( The only one I like)

Whereas my favourite names are:

  • Romy ( She likes it but not love it)
  • Dahlia
  • Neva

She is so sure, those are pretty names. Pleaaase help, she'll be reading all the comments!

Argh Auto correct. ROMY

Vinoveritass · 13/12/2023 13:01

Helen is the only one from either list I'd use

Socialyawkward · 13/12/2023 13:01

Dallas + Dahlia

Why not just kind of combine them 2 to make Delilah ?

amusedbush · 13/12/2023 13:05

Emma and Helena are the best choices by far.

I think Maude is horrible. It's dour and clunky, and it makes me think of maudlin.

LardoBurrows · 13/12/2023 13:08

From your second list I like them all except Clementina.

I also like Benedicta and Beatrice which sound lovely in English and French.

MissBuffyAnneSummers · 13/12/2023 13:10

Your names are as bad as hers.

Helen is alright.

itsmyp4rty · 13/12/2023 13:11

I didn't like either of your first lidts very much and for me Maude is horrible, hard sounding and makes me think of mauled. Helen seems dated to me, I heard the name a bit in the 80's but not since then.

I love Lorena though, by far the loveliest of all the names you've got and quite unusual but in a good way.

Gillypie23 · 13/12/2023 13:11

All those names are awful.

Wemetatascoutcamp · 13/12/2023 13:11

Have you got the kinder app? Thats given me and DH a list of names we mutually like.

mummymeister · 13/12/2023 13:13

most of the names you have listed are not "traditional" really are they! Traditional would be Catherine, Elizabeth, Josephine, Anne etc. The names I really like for a girl are Cecily, Blythe, Elise, Heloise/Eloise and Lorna. My boys names are much more out there.

TreacleMines · 13/12/2023 13:17

Moonlightdust · 13/12/2023 10:58

Sorry don’t like any of those. Romilly is a better version of Romy and I liked your mention of Flora.

Romilly is a suburb of Manchester… not the most exciting namesake.

Dahlia is a nice traditional name if it’s pronounced the British way (day-lee-a like the flower). But a lot of people will will think it’s daar-lee-a like the famous American murder case.

Id go with Helena

Busymomm · 13/12/2023 13:20

Once you see the baby you will have a better idea. My youngest had no name for over a week because we couldn’t agree.
we ended up with a safe name James!

Mostlyoblivious · 13/12/2023 13:22

Lilah? Similar vein to the lists..

Noglitterallowed · 13/12/2023 13:23

I can’t believe people are picking Helen? They are all dreadful IMO but Helen?? Unless the kid is coming out with a bobbed haircut, a nice blouse and a necklace and earring set I’d stay well clear!

Yes, we like :
Maude
Maeve
Clementina
Helena
Back to Emma
Elisa

After some thoughts , seems I am obsessed with names now hahaha, my wife is French but I am not. So, Helena (Hélène which is at all not an old woman's name in France, culture really is, a barrier sometimes).

There are French names I love, but I am afraid it would be hard on our child in the UK : Manon , Baptistine and Garance.

Aha! I missed this update OP. This is a lovely list and the information your wife is French makes so much sense. I can see some of them coming across differently in France and then that she has worked to anglicise. I know a little French Helene ( also an Heloise!) and they aren’t as old ladyish as Helen in English. I don’t see the need to anglicise them: Helene ( forgive lack of accents) is lovely. I know it’s a bit weird in France to be called English names but I don’t think the reverse holds. But I really love Elisa! Was going to suggest it before with Lisa but thought it was travelling too far from Lisandry. I also think Manon is super super cute. It would work fine at my DC’s schools but I note some think it could get teased. I don’t see that but then I can’t speak for all schools in uk I guess. Trust a good classic French name and go with it!

ILookLikeAPinkBlancmange · 13/12/2023 13:26

What about Lisanne, Lauren, Estelle, Emily, Joely?

Oh and just a thought ( I’m probably channeling from Manon des Sources now!) but if you like Emma what about Emmanuelle to make it slightly more unusual and French, with Emma for an “ English “ diminutive/ shortened name.

I’ve met a couple of Manon’s - good name.
put a pin in it until the baby is here - you’ll soon know when you see her. Lisandry would be a good middle name. Hope you enjoy the rest of your pregnancy OP

beetr00 · 13/12/2023 13:27

@Demainsdeslaube you have time to decide, good luck all three💐

I'm throwing Théa into the mix?

and should further input be required

If you like Clement- I have come across a little girl called Clemency which you might like.

My wife and I couldn’t agree on girls names AT ALL…

I liked- Cristabel, Felicity, Loveday, Honeysuckle and Aloyisia.

She liked- Joan.

🤦‍♀️

I tried the ‘I’m giving birth so I’m choosing’ but it didn’t wash. Thank fuck we had a boy before it actually came to divorce!

Simpleblessingsxx · 13/12/2023 12:42

Congratulations 😊

When you ask I suppose you have to accept honest opinions and for me anyway they're all awful with the exception of Bradleigh (prefer Bradley) & Helen (prefer Ellen)

Oops, I thought the original list was girls & boys names. I do like Bradley for a boy not for a girl & as mentioned Helen, Ellen, Ellena. The rest 👎

SpringleDingle · 13/12/2023 13:32

Ouch - they aren't great. Helen is pretty neutral. Emma is ok. Eloise is moderately less awful. The rest just make me wince. Bradley ... Walsh???? Romi ... Aroundi????

Might I add:

Eleanor & Marianne to the list.

Manon is great unless you become a footballer.

Though I don't know what women shout, to be fair, I still shouted "Man on!" when I played. "Woman on!" is too many syllables.

See, this is what I am afraid of. Manon is not pronounced Man On, but Man uh. Dk how to spell the pronunciation. The N at the end is silent.

Download the app babymatch - both of you. You swipe left for no and right for yes and you can link your accounts so you can see names you both like.

Me and my husband are currently trying to figure out names we like and have different tastes but there are ones we both like so they stay in the mix the others get thrown out.

HipHop63 · 13/12/2023 13:35

Rommy has two MM's. I know this because I previously had a horse called Rommy.
