Hello everyone!

I am 5 months pregnant, and my wife and I are having a hard time agreeing. After weeks of "arguing", we decided to forget about all the previous names suggested before and make a new list.
I absolutely hate all the names she wrote down :

  • Bradleigh ( her favourite)
  • Dallas
  • Paris
  • Lisandry
  • Helen ( The only one I like)

Whereas my favourite names are:

  • Romy ( She likes it but not love it)
  • Dahlia
  • Neva

She is so sure, those are pretty names. Pleaaase help, she'll be reading all the comments!

Manon would NOT work in a state secondary school unless she wanted to be nicknamed Manon Topajah.

There was a Manon in my state secondary school and I don’t remember anyone making fun of her name. She was extremely cool, though!

It's a common Welsh name and also French, but might remind some people of the story of the prostitue Manon Lescaut.
Having said that, people name their children Carmen...

savemytimezone · 13/12/2023 10:57

Combine your two favourites:

Bradleigh (hers)
Romy (yours)

Bradmy
Roleigh
Romeigh

Just joking 😂

I don't like either of those names myself.

I really think you both need to come up with more names and keep going until you both go BINGO! There are THOUSANDS of names out there. There must be ONE you can both agree on.

Good luck with the rest of your pregnancy!

Moonlightdust · 13/12/2023 10:58

Sorry don’t like any of those. Romilly is a better version of Romy and I liked your mention of Flora.

savemytimezone · 13/12/2023 10:59

I like Helen/Helene/Helena.

ElfieLea · 13/12/2023 10:59

I know a Dallas and it's a much nicer name in person if that makes sense. I associate names with people and the Dallas I know is a happy go lucky, every body likes her kind of person if that's what you're looking for. I like Bradleigh too but out of all of them I'd go for Romy or Dahlia.

Appleass · 13/12/2023 11:00

All ridiculous apart from Helen, poor child !

shearwater2 · 13/12/2023 11:01

I like Helen, Paris (fan of Homer, is she?) and Romy.

I really like Romilly - Romy could be short for that.

shearwater2 · 13/12/2023 11:03

Manon is great unless you become a footballer.

Though I don't know what women shout, to be fair, I still shouted "Man on!" when I played. "Woman on!" is too many syllables.

PurpleChrayne · 13/12/2023 11:04

They're awful!

Lisandry sounds like a euphemism for a lewd sexual practise.

Sunshineandflipflops · 13/12/2023 11:09

I don't like any of those names either. I really like traditional names but even Helen is a bit too 'middle aged' for me.

I hope you find a name you both agree on soon.

IncompleteSenten · 13/12/2023 11:09

That last lot are nicer imo. Apart from Clemantina. if it was me I'd go with Clementine instead.

ChanelNo19EDT · 13/12/2023 11:10

Can you imagine the questions with Dallas.

Fans of Dallas? The new Dallas or the old Dallas.

Have you been to Dallas?
No.
Oh.

ThisIsntThe80sPat · 13/12/2023 11:11

Helen is the least awful from both lists.

My husband and I took forever to agree our sons' names. We have different tastes. We found two names for them which we could agree on , not favourites but where could say yes we like it. We both had to give up our favourites though. He really wanted a Jason, I really wanted a Nicholas. Neither of our sons are called those.

ThisIsntThe80sPat · 13/12/2023 11:15

Demainsdeslaube · 13/12/2023 09:09

Yes, we like :
Maude
Maeve
Clementina
Helena
Back to Emma
Elisa

After some thoughts , seems I am obsessed with names now hahaha, my wife is French but I am not. So, Helena (Hélène which is at all not an old woman's name in France, culture really is, a barrier sometimes).

There are French names I love, but I am afraid it would be hard on our child in the UK : Manon , Baptistine and Garance.

Maeva?

JoeyRamonesHair · 13/12/2023 11:15

I like your names but her are awful - Lisandry sounds like a mis-spelling of misandry.

Beware asking here though - unless the names you like are Alice, Emma, Olivia or Sophie (or whatever else is in this year's top 10) you'll be seen as cruel for giving your child a weird name!

Digestivechocolatebiscuit · 13/12/2023 11:20

Helen.. that's about it.. but not even keen on that...all awful
. Poor kid

Differentstarts · 13/12/2023 11:21

Helen. Are you having a 45 year old. All the names on both lists are awful you need to both write longer lists

FarmGirl78 · 13/12/2023 11:22

Are we allowed to tell you that your names are awful too? 😬

diddl · 13/12/2023 11:22

I love Manon.

Wish my husband had liked it.

Elise rather than Elisa?

Lucia?

TooManyPlatesInMotion · 13/12/2023 11:30

Romy or Helen.

The rest are . . . . Awful tbh.

cerisepanther73 · 13/12/2023 11:31

@Demainsdeslaube

Why don't you compromise and have Christian and middle names from both lists or
Consirder another options of slight alterations/ alternatives to names in in some way too?

pontipinemum · 13/12/2023 11:32

@Demainsdeslaube sorry I haven't read the full thread or even much of it!!

Have you looked at the kinder app? It's good fun.

On both of your lists I like Helen or Dahlia. Is that supposed to be Lysander? I like that too

HaddawayAndShite · 13/12/2023 11:32

Demainsdeslaube · 13/12/2023 06:00

Honestly, I found other no-so-subtle comments hilarious, but this one is just plain rude and bitchy.

But thanks.

OP, the mistake you've made is posting on MN. Unless you're planning on calling the baby Olivia or Ava then you'll be told the names are FAR too attention seeking, disgusting, ridiculous, made up etc etc.

Are the names to my taste? No, but the bitter and vile ways some people talk about just a bloody name on this site is utterly bonkers, and sometimes borders or racist / xenophobic.

Lisandry looks like you've spelled Misandry wrong though.

WhyamIinahandcartandwherearewegoing · 13/12/2023 11:34

All of them are hideous with exception of Helen imo. Bradleigh is the worst.
