Hello everyone!

I am 5 months pregnant, and my wife and I are having a hard time agreeing. After weeks of "arguing", we decided to forget about all the previous names suggested before and make a new list.
I absolutely hate all the names she wrote down :

  • Bradleigh ( her favourite)
  • Dallas
  • Paris
  • Lisandry
  • Helen ( The only one I like)

Whereas my favourite names are:

  • Romy ( She likes it but not love it)
  • Dahlia
  • Neva

She is so sure, those are pretty names. Pleaaase help, she'll be reading all the comments!

What's wrong with being a Romani? What if I told you my wife and I were both Romani?

Pfffff

If you are both Romani then I suggest looking through your family tree (sign up on Ancestry to get one started if no one in the family hasn't already), I'm sure you'll find some amazing names from your ancestors if they're anything like my Romani family!

I'm not fond of any of the names suggested but I think Lavinia might be a good fit with the names you've both chosen.

Bananabreadandstrawberries · 13/12/2023 00:40

Ohhh I looove the name Elodie!!

How about naming your daughter Aria?
I think they are both musical!

momonpurpose · 13/12/2023 00:45

Sorry I don't like her names either. Lisandra is similar to one of hers but a bit nicer

ASGIRC · 13/12/2023 00:49

You need to stop the ridiculous spellings.

Christina is a name, Cristina is not.

Of course it is! Its not even a ridiculous spelling. If one of them is from a different country, then Cristina is the correct spelling!

Pinkpinkpink15 · 13/12/2023 00:57

@Demainsdeslaube

Emma is the only one I could live with.

Helen is ok if you're giving birth to a middle aged woman.

I really dislike the others.

Have you considered using the baby name Apps?

I love Elodie.

i could make done suggestions, but they'd all be a million miles away from both your lists, I think it would be pointless.

Is the father on the scene? Could you ask him?

Dobbybigearsdog · 13/12/2023 00:59

I love Helen, possibly Helena? Also a lovely name

Dobbybigearsdog · 13/12/2023 01:00

My sister is Joanna also my daughters middle name 🩷

Hocuspocusnonsense · 13/12/2023 01:09

Bradleigh - Boys name, for a girl it’s made up and awful
Dallas and Paris - will be asked repeatedly if she was conceived there/born there and tacky
Lisandry - cleaning product
Helen - Date but passable

Babla · 13/12/2023 01:10

All awful apart from Helen I'm afraid
Helena is nicer

Growlybear83 · 13/12/2023 01:12

Apart from Helen, I think you would be cruel to saddle a child with any of those names. Lisandry has got to be the worst of all and sounds like a mouthwash.

Commonhousewitch · 13/12/2023 01:25

Is your wife English- her name choices seem more American/Australian style - surnames as first names, place names as first names etc
I think you have to discuss what features in names you both like- length, meaning, style and see if you can find a crossover?
of the names i much prefer Romy.
Lisandry remind me of misandry - which is something you may want to avoid!

Love Clement as a boys name - Clementine? Clemence?

Mumtobabyhavoc · 13/12/2023 01:32

OP, I like Bradleigh from your wife's list.
From your list, Neva, but I really like Neve/Niamh.
Good luck!

You like Bradleigh ? And for a girl?

Yes, I've come around to it. ☺️

Muthaofcats · 13/12/2023 01:42

Lisandry sounds like misandry which would be the perfect name for the daughter of a two mamas 😂

But seriously, don’t do it….

I agree, your wife’s names aren’t great. Unless you live in the US or are from the gypsy/traveller community where I can imagine them fitting more.

helen isn’t good either, too much like a 40 year old woman. It’s not a very ‘current’ girls name, but classically its meaning is good. ‘The face that launched a thousand ships’ etc I think you can do better though.

not a fan of yours either though so I suggest you keep looking….

WhycantIkeepthisbloodyplantalive · 13/12/2023 01:44

Helen or Delilah is the only two I'd consider from both of your lists. More swayed towards Helen however.

Catslovenip · 13/12/2023 01:44

Helen is an incredibly boring but inoffensive name. I like Romy.

Chouette77 · 13/12/2023 02:45

I am strangely invested in this thread, which is the first ever baby names thread I have ever commented on!

ChanelNo19EDT · 12/12/2023 21:43

Wow, where to start! I'll start with the worst.

Bradleigh is terrible. But just Leigh is OK.
Hate Dallas and Paris but suggest Lois

trying to find overlap between yr taste and hers, ehat about Bellamy which has something in common with Bradleigh and Romy?

Neva is terrible too. You're not off the hook here!! What about Maeve?

Dahlia is a bit fancy compared to other choices. Della or Delia are both easier to say.

A child ( I think a girl) called Bellamy as in David ? Surely not.

Emma, Helen or Helena are fine.
I personally like Dalilah.

HMW1906 · 13/12/2023 03:02

Bradley is you spell it properly…spelling it the way your wife has suggested is basically setting your child up for having to correct the spelling for his entire life.

is Lisandry even a name???

Other Bradley (spelt properly) and Helen (although a bit dated maybe) they’re all pretty awful.

Ascubudr · 13/12/2023 03:09

Demainsdeslaube · 12/12/2023 23:09

It's not a boy, but if she was, she'd be Clement or Levi.

If you like Clement why not Clementine ?

StockpotSoup · 13/12/2023 03:55

If I met a child called Neva, I’d report her parents to social services.

mrssunshinexxx · 13/12/2023 04:27

All hideous names sorry!
