Clara & Darcy or Adeline & Isabelle

EMswan · 11/12/2023 15:59

I'm 28 weeks pregnant with twin girls and really struggling for names.

I like Clara and Darcy as a pair and I like Isabelle and Adeline as a pair but not sure I love either combo.
I also like the names Madeline, Isabella and Amelia but don't really love any.
Middle names will be a combination of Elizabeth, Emily, Mary and Jane and the surname is Swan. Any ideas or preferences for the thoughts I've got would be appreciated!!

I much prefer Clara and Darcy as a combo.

Isabel (this spelling or Isobel) is lovely too. Adeline is fine.

CocoPlum · 11/12/2023 16:04

Adeline and Isabelle, because I have one of these and the other is a name for one of my mythical other daughters!

(I've seen a lot of negative comments about the spelling of Isabelle on here recently, not sure why?!)

Oh also Isabelle is the medieval Spanish form of Elizabeth so maybe don't put those together as first and middle!

DuploTrain · 11/12/2023 16:05

Clara and Isabelle together are my favourite.

I think Clara and Darcy are a bit clunky together because they both have the “ar” sound in them.

I don’t love Adeline.

SoSad44 · 11/12/2023 16:06

Another vote for Clara and Isabelle

beautiful surname!

goodgriefsean · 11/12/2023 16:07

I like Clara and Madeline.
Not keen on Darcy or Adeline. Isabelle/a and Amelia are ok.
Remember you're naming two individuals not just baby twins so it's fine if they don't sound like a 'pair'.
Clara Elizabeth and Madeline Emily.

Bicorne · 11/12/2023 16:10

Clara and Isabelle or Adeline. Darcy is awful (and sounds like she’s from a different family).

EMswan · 11/12/2023 16:12

Can see Darcy isn't really a hit- any reason why that I'm missing?

Anyone have any other names we might like?

I think I prefer Adeline and Isabelle but I really like them all.

Foxsoxandgloves · 11/12/2023 16:16

Not helpful but both equally lovely x

I don't dislike Isabelle, but it's the French spelling, traditionally. Isabel and Isabelle are pronounced the same so if you're British etc the extra 'le' is only for decoration. I guess it seems a bit superfluous and frilly to me, which is why I'd prefer Isabel.

The name either way is very nice though, OP I am another one who thinks Clara and Isabel are the best pairing.

My fantasy twin girls would probably be Freya and Sophia. Or Marianne and Phoebe. Or Philippa and Francesca. Or Anna and Julia. Or Persephone and Seraphina. Or Tamsin and Imogen...but i had boys:)

Doublebiscuit77 · 11/12/2023 16:20

Oh, also, I hate that i know this but as nice as as Isabella is, Isabella Swann is the main character in the Twilight series so that might put you off.

Well because Darcy is a surname really, has only been used as a first name for girls in recent years, whereas the others are all proper traditional girl's names (nice ones too) so Darcy doesn't seem to fit.

With Darcy my first thought is always of Mr Darcy from P&P, so it seems a bit incongruous on a baby girl. Although I admit the sound of it is pretty.

Isabel/la and Madeline or Clara would be lovely. You are lucky to have a nice surname too.

This. Darcy really doesn't go..I'd be a bit confused to hear of twins called Clara and Darcy.

CocoPlum · 11/12/2023 16:38

@Doublebiscuit77 I've always felt like it looks like the 'le' has fallen off the spelling of Isabel 😆
But then I have a name (first and surname!) that can be spelled with or without certain letters - mine is with and the "without" variations look like they're missing something to me ... I guess I just like to use all available letters!

KirstenBlest · 11/12/2023 16:50

Clara and Darcy - dislike both, Darcy is past its best and it has spelling issues
Clara is ok if pronounced Clair-a, but that has fallen out of fashion
Madeleine is nice but I don't like Adeline
Isabelle is nice but a bit frilly, and if you include the variations (Isabel, Isobel, Isabella etc) it's overused

Your list of middle names is much better. I wouldn't use two long names for twins.

purpledahlias · 11/12/2023 16:59

Clara and Isabel

purpledahlias · 11/12/2023 17:01

Isabel = ISA bel (emphasis on Isa)

Isabelle = Isa BELLE (emphasis on Belle)

The second is the French spelling and that's how they pronounce it

SleepingStandingUp · 11/12/2023 17:02

I'd have Darcy and Adeline

Isabelle and Adeline of they absolutely have to go the way you say.

Darcy Elizabeth
Adeline Mary / Jane
Isabelle Jane

LilyLemonade · 11/12/2023 17:06

I like Clara and Darcy but there’s too much ‘ar’ together.

How about alliterative names?
Clara and Constance
Darcy and Delilah

I was going to say this 🤣 and Elizabeth Swan is Keira Knightly's part in Pirates of the Caribbean!

I like them all except Darcy...no real reason except it sounds like a surname to me. I think Clara and Madeline sound best personally but any combination is fine!

Notmetoo · 11/12/2023 17:08

I'm not keen on Darcey the others are nice in any combination.
I don't think Darcey goes with Clara

OneCup · 11/12/2023 17:09

Clara and Adeline for me.

EMswan · 11/12/2023 17:11

How do we feel about Isabella and Amelia?
I'm totally willing to overlook the twilight link as that doesn't bother me at all.
My name is Emily so I worry Amelia and Emily are too close for the same house!

Clara and Isabel/Isabelle.

Don't really like Adeline because it looks somehow unfinished and medicinal and makes me think of adrenal/adrenaline/adenoids. Additionally I'm not very familiar with how it's usually pronounced in the UK - is it Adel-een in the French way or Ade-line to rhyme with pine? Don't really like Darcy because, as a PP has said, it sounds like a surname to me and more than that like the name of a Jane Austen hero. I'm baffled by why this name became a popular girl's name.

Chipsandbeansandcheese · 11/12/2023 17:15

I don’t like Darcy at all. It’s so harsh sounding.

Clara and Isabelle.

Amelia is so popular it’s been done to death.
