I'm quite a big fan of this but wanted to hear thoughts - I really like Alexa but don't want her to be getting compared to an amazon device for the rest of her life and I think this is just as nice.

It sounds like elixir

My first thought too.

MrsNK28 · 18/11/2023 00:06

Its either name of medicine or name of a stripper. Please dont.

ErinAndTonic · 18/11/2023 00:16

It just sounds like an accent for Alexa or a medication or potion. If you own an Alexa it's definitely going to get confusing..
Plus I think they would be teased for the name. And it's also not really that nice...

Elixa doesn't sound good.

How about ..
Alexandra
Alessia
Alix
Sandrine

Feliciacat · 18/11/2023 04:19

I haven’t RTFT but Elixa has the sound ‘lick’ in it and I think it sounds pornographic as a result. It would be a very unfortunate name for any age group.

As others have said, Elissa is nice!

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 18/11/2023 07:40

Eliska is an actual name, of Czech origin.

Squirrelsnut · 18/11/2023 07:43

Elissa? I teach one, I think it's lovely.

Caravaggiouch · 18/11/2023 07:43

Yeesh. No.

What about Alessia instead?

user701 · 18/11/2023 07:48

It’s dreadful. Plus I just tried it out on my Alexa and it responded

why do people insist on using silly made up names. It has really negative connotations. People will assume you’re not very bright.

Talkingtothecat247 · 18/11/2023 12:13

Alexa will mishear it as her name and answer to it.

ThePoshUns · 18/11/2023 12:17

Don't be so ridiculous

twilightcafe · 18/11/2023 12:27

Elixa sounds like you're obviously trying to avoid Alexa.
And it sounds like elixir. Cue a lifetime of 'jokers' coughing when she says her name.

cheleuh · 18/11/2023 13:26

Not a fan, sorry. Alexa is nice.

I'm of the school of thought that anything can be a name if it sounds good.

It doesn’t sound good

It sounds like Alexa - which is not a name you can use anymore

Or it sounds like you wanted to make Eliza younique like people that spell Jackson Jaxon

Or like a wearable medical device

Use it for a pot plant instead

boysmuminherts · 18/11/2023 15:02

Sounds like Elixir
So...no, not a good name at all

neveradullmoment99 · 18/11/2023 15:04

Elixa? This is a joke yes?

Theredfoxfliesatmidnight · 18/11/2023 15:09

I disagree.....clitoris, giblet and mackerel are all words that sound pretty but you wouldn't call your daughter any of them

twilightcafe · 18/11/2023 16:43

I've just said to my Amazon smart speaker, 'Elixa, what time is it?'

She said 4.42pm

nameXname · 19/11/2023 19:12

Op Just on the remote chance that you are being serious, Elissa is a perfectly good name - the alternative name that the Ancient Romans gave to conquered Queen Dido.
As a previous poster has said, it's fine. And it's over 2000 years old, if that matters to you.

NewbieTwentyFour · 23/11/2023 13:12

No, it’s not a name and just makes me think of elixir.

If you like Alexa but don’t want the Amazon connection, what about Alessia? Alexis? Alexandra and call her Alexa as a nickname? Those are all real names.

SweetBirdsong · 23/11/2023 13:14

NO. Not only does it sound like 'elixir' But also I just said 'ELIXA!' and my Alexa came on. Don't do it @DawnieOwl

MythicBish · 23/11/2023 13:29

Not sure if a previous poster has said this already but to me it just sounds like Alexa said in a bad imitation of a South African accent.
I'm not a fan personally sorry op

Thursdayusername · 25/11/2023 21:36

Alexa devices will still hear it as Alexa so it won't resolve that problem.
