We are no further on despite weeks of going back and forth, boys name is done but we can’t seem to get any closer with the girls. Names are below, the middle name will be one of these as well, please name our potential baby girl 😂

Emeline
Cecily
Aurora
Adeline
Theodora
Leonora
Celia

I would love Emmeline. I also like Evangeline.
im currently pregnant with our third, don’t know sex yet, but my boyfriend will not go with either of those 😂🙈
I also like Claudia, Clara and Aurelia. I like aurora but it’s too popular for my liking.

MerryChristmasToYou · 30/10/2023 20:24

@PabloandGustheGreySquirrels, I've never heard of EmmaLynne/Emma-Lynne or Emmaline.

Springforward1 · 30/10/2023 20:46

Imho beautiful apart from Astrid & Aurelia🤦‍♀️
I'd still worry about Cecili & the possibility of the nickname 'silly' as a previous poster also mentioned. Your second lot of names are far superior to your first lot but again that's just my opinion.

You’ve never heard of Emmeline Pankhurst?! 😳🤦🏽‍♀️

Cecily is lovely - I would choose a different name for a middle name rather than one off the list though to go with it. If you choose 2 unusual names, it takes a bit away from the chosen first name I think. Cecelia is nice too, my little boy has a girl in his class called it and she gets Cece with is also cute. I taught a little girl called Emmeline and she was just lovely - also a lovely name.

I found it much easier to pick a boys name than girls name and the more people gave their opinions, the harder I found it so just go with what you really like and ignore everyone else!!

Evangeline is one of my most favourite names. Also Tabitha and Mariella.
From your new list I love Florence.

MerryChristmasToYou · 01/11/2023 16:07

Astrid - like it a lot, but it seems to be growing in popularity
Clara - don't like it
Aurelia - too frilly. Aureelia or Ow-railia or Au-ray-lia?
Claudia - not particularly popular but popular on MN. Claw-dia or Cloud-ia?
Florence - ok
Bonnie - a bit too nicknamey. Connie is better

MerryChristmasToYou · 01/11/2023 16:10

@saffy2 , where in "@PabloandGustheGreySquirrels, I've never heard of EmmaLynne/Emma-Lynne or Emmaline." did you get the idea that I'd never heard of Emmeline Pankhurst?

Thank you so much for all the help! We are down to either Cecily or Emmeline/Emeline with either Leonora or Aurora as middle names but are now also considering, thanks to some suggestions
Astrid
Clara
Aurelia
Claudia
Florence
Bonnie
Thoughts?

Astrid sounds harsh and culturally a bit weird for a UK girl, unless you are Scandinavian.
Clara is mmm...a bit precious - the name of the little girl in The Nutcracker. Would you like it if your name was Clara? (I wouldn't)
Aurelia is just awful
Claudia and Florence are rather frumpy, though can be fine with a very pretty girl to balance the frump.
Bonnie is wholesome and at least less likely to get shortened to an unwelcome nickname.

The common denominator is that these are all 'good, obedient girl' names.

Hey all, hoping for some feedback as baby is a boy! Already a week old and nameless, we’re set on one of the below plus another for middle, grateful for your opinion because my postpartum brain cannot choose!

Laurence
Hugo
Jasper

Congratulations! 👶
All are OK but in order of preference: Hugo, Jasper, Laurence

saffy2 · 23/02/2024 10:01

My son is Jasper and I adore it, he’s 14 now though and one thing to consider is that jasper is very popular these days. I come across a lot of baby and toddler japsers, and my daughter (5) has two jaspers in her year at school.

Thewildthingsarewithme · 23/02/2024 10:01

@MerryChristmasToYou thank you, he’s lovely 🥰

@saffy2 that’s good to know, it is my favourite but I did wonder about popularity. Not sure whether to care or not if we love it or to perhaps go with Laurence which seems to be less well known

Adeline Cecily is my vote

I agree if you love it I think you shouldn’t care. But I do care most of the time 😂 it’s difficult.
and I love the name jasper, there are a couple of Laurence’s we know his age, teens, but I haven’t come across a baby or toddler Laurence. (I work in early years too so do see a lot of babies and toddlers!)

almostthere75 · 23/02/2024 10:21

Congratulations!
How about Vincent?
Laurence 👍🏻

HAF1119 · 23/02/2024 10:21

I love Hugo or Finley personally! Jasper is lovely, not one I've ever thought of but it is a really nice name

Congratulations! Was it a shock being a boy instead of a girl?!

Thewildthingsarewithme · 23/02/2024 10:26

@HAF1119 i was convinced it was a boy all along but everyone else said girl, even the midwife 😂 it was a very very different pregnancy and bump too so even though I thought boy I still had a moment of shock like is this definitely my baby 😂

Thanks @saffy2 and @almostthere75 I’ll start a votes tally I think

Emmeline is lovely but will constantly get misheard as Emily, it feels more popular when you add in Emily/Emma/Emme. I love adaline - you could have Ada or Addie as a nickname but the full name is so pretty.

DappledThings · 23/02/2024 10:36

Loads of people won't notice the update and just respond to your now obsolete list of girls' names.

Of your boys' names I'd go Laurence, Jasper, Hugo in order of preference. Love Laurie as a shortening. They are all quote public school sounding but Hugo is the most public school so my least favourite.

MariaVT65 · 23/02/2024 10:37

Ah it’s a boy! Congrats!

I quite like Hugo Laurence :)

Pemba · 23/02/2024 11:35

I think Laurence. It's well known but not over popular. Nice potential diminutive of Laurie.

Hugo I find a bit try-hard posh. Then some people might pronounce as 'Hoo-go'.

Jasper is a pantomime villain to me, or a wasp. Although I realise it's become very popular lately, so maybe other people don't have those associations. I prefer Caspar.

rainingsnoring · 23/02/2024 13:02

Nice options. I would choose Laurence as I'm fond of the nn Laurie and the literary link. I like Jasper (and Caspar) a lot too and Hugo is fine but they are all quite popular at the moment and I have the feeling you might prefer something a bit more unusual.
