Would you go against your DP and register a name they don't like?

Hello, our baby boy is 4 weeks old and we have still not managed to finalise his name! Me and DP have absolute polar opposite name styles and it has been a nightmare trying to find any compromise at all. When we think we are compromising, the other just doesn't like the name enough so we are left with a name neither of us really like.

I'm at the stage now where we do have to register his birth, I know we have a couple weeks left but I don't want to leave it until last minute to have his decided name and it's already feeling very last minute with him being 4 weeks.

Would it be wrong to say "look, we are never going to agree and I have to register something and one of us may as well love it" and then he will in the end love it because it is his son's name? Or is that just asking for a relationship breakdown. Not sure what to do!

Oh god, I’ve changed my mind. Run now and name
him without him…

Agree........🏃‍♂️🏃‍♀️🏃

The way I looked at it by the third was I'd carried him for 9 months and gone through the birth.....what does the man do......exactly😳 woman gets to decide especiallywhen partner has such awful taste😂

He has suggested Macaulay... what do you think? It's not my usual style but I actually don't think I mind it!

It would be nice to have something that you actually like though, wouldn't it? Rather than that you don't mind it?

Also quite a jump from the Old Testament to Home Alone.

RosannaJP · 24/08/2023 17:01

Would be amazing to have a name I like that he also agrees to but don't think we will ever see eye to eye and one of us will always be a bit unhappy with it which I certainly didn't want to be me Grin hence the thread title

How about Zachary? Biblical-ish but also quite American?

TwatsAndGuitars · 24/08/2023 17:05

I love Macaulay.

cherryassam · 24/08/2023 17:11

Macaulay is very much Macaulay Culkin to me, but it’s a pleasant sounding name

What about Malachi? Or Mordecai?

ZoyaTheDestroyer · 24/08/2023 17:15

What about Jed?

RosannaJP · 24/08/2023 17:19

I like Malachi! Thought it was a good compromise name but he said he hates how the "chi" is at the end and thinks a Malakai spelling would be better and I've said no. It's the same with any name that is perfectly fine spelt how it is but if it isn't obvious to him he is against it which is irritating as fuck.

Malakhi is the Biblical Hebrew version of Malachi, would that be a compromise?

I actually like malakai to be fair. I'm very traditional but think that coompromise isn't too bad. It's just the spelling really.

Also, normally the woman is more pedantic, Nevr met a man who is so hung up on names he prefers a certain spelling! :)))

No I would never do that. Both parents should have equal rights. I think this would cause deep resentment. My DH and I struggled to agree on a name during pregnancy. In the end we picked a 'theme' (themes could be classic names, biblical, Irish names etc) and then worked through a list corresponding to that theme until we came accross one we both liked. Or alternatively, two of our friends literally asked a relative to pull a name out of a hat.

Rare biblical names althag are also quite American:

Oren is one of the sons of Jerahmeel
Eben (short for Ebeneezer) mentioned in the book of Samuel

No way would I do this.

You find a compromise.

TheWayoftheLeaf · 24/08/2023 17:51

No. It's their child too and I'd never take that choice from them.

Rocco is a saint I think? Pretty sure there's a san Rocco church in Venice. If I was to compromise on his list it would be that one.

longestlurkerever · 24/08/2023 17:57

Malakai is also ok

Laney79 · 24/08/2023 17:57

My son is Roan -pronounced Rowan
