Hi all, currently expecting a baby girl and we’re stuck between Lydia or Lucy. My name is Louise so I wanted to have an L name for my little girl, husband prefers Lucy but I like Lydia!

All opinions welcome 😊

Sorry OP, I'm voting with your DH Wink

I like Lydia! Other similar options: Lila (pronounced lie-la or lee-la), Lola, Leila, Lexi, Livia.Smile

JellyDeels · 27/07/2023 11:12

Lucy is too similar to Louise, so I'm voting Lydia.

Lydia

Lucy is sweet but one of those slightly babyish names I think work better on little girls - also definitely more popular than Lydia right now

There’s also Lucia, but it has a few different pronunciations (the Spanish Loo-see-ah is probably nicest and gaining ground, but the still quite nice Italian Loo-chee-ah is still more common in the UK. The American Loo-sha is awful, but would be rare here anyway).

continentallentil · 27/07/2023 11:18

Or how about Lois?

Wrenegade · 27/07/2023 11:23

I think both are really lovely, but Lucy just beats Lydia for me.

Crikeyalmighty · 27/07/2023 11:27

Both lovely-

Crikeyalmighty · 27/07/2023 11:27

I also like Laura and Lara

Crikeyalmighty · 27/07/2023 11:29

My friend has a little one called Layla - which I also think is nice

Totallyconfusedperson · 27/07/2023 11:34

I prefer Lucy, both are lovely tho

Milkyway42 · 27/07/2023 11:34

Thanks all, I like Lydia as it doesn’t sound too similar to Louise in the way that Lucy does, not keen on Lois or Layla

I love Lydia. I really wanted to use it and would have but DH didn't like it so we ended up with Claudia instead which I also love. Lucy is also nice....but in my opinion it's not a patch on Lydia.

IWannaShout · 27/07/2023 11:35

Lucy not biased because my dd is called Lucy

YourMommaWasASnowblower · 27/07/2023 11:37

I prefer Lucy. I like Lydia, but I don’t like it when people shorten it to ‘Lids’.

AdaColeman · 27/07/2023 11:41

Lydia is my favourite from your list.

Lucy is pretty too. Some other thoughts...
Lana
Letitia
Lavinia
Lucinda (my favourite)

Princessconsuelabananahammock9 · 27/07/2023 11:43

Lucy or Lucille.

Also Lisa, Laine, Laura

geoger · 27/07/2023 11:46

Lydia is really lovely - go for it.
or how about Luna or Lana?

Grantanow · 27/07/2023 11:48

Go for both - Lydia Lucy - then she has a choice later.

OopsieeDaisy · 27/07/2023 14:31

Lydia is lovely, I also love Lucia.

crabette · 27/07/2023 14:58

Lydia is my fave - or Lucia, or Luna.

Not as keen on Lucy.

Theoldwoman · 27/07/2023 15:17

I prefer Lucille to Lucy.

Lydia is wonderful.

My favourite L name is Laura.

Much better than when people shorten Lucy to 'Loose' 😨 which is what my niece has been unfortunately saddled with her whole life 🤦‍♀️

smartiesnskittles · 27/07/2023 15:22

Lydia! How about Lydia Louise!

And Liddy or Liddy Lou for nn. 😊

I like Lucy too though.

SpringIntoChaos · 27/07/2023 15:23

Lydia is gorgeous OP... but I have to ask...why do you want to have an 'L' name just because yours begins with 'L'? There are so many lovely names that are off limits to you if you stick to this rather unimaginative stance 🤷‍♀️

AdalineStephen · 27/07/2023 16:26

Lydia is beautiful
