DP suggested it but I think it's awful! Look dreadful lol and would condemn our poor DD to a lifetime of having to say "it's same as Elsie but spelt.... ". Argh!

What's his name? He can name her if he changes his to Dykkhud.

sunshinesupermum · 25/07/2023 14:39

Just plain daft. Your poor child.

muddlingthrou · 25/07/2023 14:39

Dumpable offence if you ask me 🤣

Is he dyslexic.

JusthereforXmas · 25/07/2023 14:49

Is he 'hard of thinking'?

It has to be a joke like when you tell people you're calling your kid Princess Pumphryetta because you're sick of them asking.

Sugargliderwombat · 25/07/2023 14:51

I think your husband is on drugs.

tt9 · 25/07/2023 14:51

it's a great idea. conversation starter for the rest of her life as she tries to explain how to spell it. also the mean comments she will receive in school due to weird spelling will be character building

I say go for it

I am hoping this is an end of term jolly jape and not an actual potential parent considering this!!!!!!!

In the case that it is actually a real scenario and the future father is reading this it is one of the most ridiculous things I have ever seen and will set the poor child up for a lifetime of teasing and resentment.

Oh you can never over estimate parental potential for idiocy where names are concerned! I once had four Siobhans in one class, none spelt that way though. If this poor baby is given this name it will be constantly teased about it at school which will be upgraded to 'bullying' and the school will be expected to waste time dealing with it.

tt9 · 25/07/2023 14:52

ps by any chance is your husband related to/friends with Elon musk and did they name his last baby together?

RosesAndHellebores · 25/07/2023 14:57

There are no words if this is true. It's more tragic than comic.

Pipsquiggle · 25/07/2023 14:58

I wished you enabled voting on this - I feel a rare 100% score would come out.

I mean, really?! Your DP needs to take a huge step back on naming your DD, he can't be trusted.

YouveGotAFastCar · 25/07/2023 12:35

Erm.. no. Why?

Elsie has a spelling. If he doesn't like the spelling, he doesn't really like the name.

I have a REALLY common 90s name, spelt differently. It's a pain in the arse. I've changed it officially on most things but a couple of things, like my original email, use the old spelling; and it just causes pointless trouble.

Why wouldn't you just change your email address?

BestBadger · 25/07/2023 14:59

"Once upon a time there were three little sisters", the Dormouse began in a great hurry; "and there names were Elsie, Lacie and Tillie; and they lived at the bottom of a well..."

determinedtomakethiswork · 25/07/2023 15:00

Ask him to spell it three times, an hour apart. I bet he doesn't spell it the same way twice.

Changes17 · 25/07/2023 15:01

Elise is nice…

tt9 · 25/07/2023 15:01

@BestBadger I am afraid you spelt ehllsyie wrong..

2bazookas · 25/07/2023 15:02

@Oceanus

Out of curiosity, could I ask if it would be possible to name a kid "doctor"? lol Sorry it's just come up in conversation. As in Doctor Smith or whatever with Doctor as the first name

Ask Barron Trump how that's working out.

JesusMaryAndJosephAndTheWeeDon · 25/07/2023 15:03

Why would you have a child with such a monster?

ILikeDinosaurs · 25/07/2023 15:04

No, it's incredibly ugly as well as illegible! Why?

What about Elise or Eloise as an alternative to Elsie?

CaveMum · 25/07/2023 15:06

Ha 😂 Reminds me of the stuff that used to appear on the "Bad Bad Baby Names" blog back in the early 2000s. The basic rules of thumb were:

Replace random vowels with the letter Y; or
Change spelling but maintain original pronunciation; or
Change pronunciation but maintain original spelling - my favourite example being a child whose name was pronounced "Why-Vone", but spelt Yvonne!

VickyEadieofThigh · 25/07/2023 15:07

Growlybear83 · 25/07/2023 12:38

Elsie is bad enough, but to spell it like that is just bonkers!

I'm in my 60s and Elsie was an old person's name when I was growing up. As were many others that are now popular, including Ruby - which is the name of one of my nieces!

But if you're going with a name, stupid alternative spellings are just that - stupid.
