Registering DD tomorrow and still unsure on name!

DD is 6 weeks old this week and we're registering her tomorrow.

After exhaustive and fruitless discussions on names, I agreed to go with DH's favourite - Margot - mainly because I felt under pressure to name her and I didn't have any names I really loved.

We have announced her name to family and friends but the trouble is I don't love it. I don't hate it, but I'm aware it's a bit of a marmite name and, having spent too much time on MN threads, I'm aware of all the criticisms of the name

I would favour a softer sounding name, along the lines of Evelynn, Martha, or Freya.

Please help me out with suggestions, or if you think I should stick with Margot and hope that she grows into her name and I grow to love it.

Martha and Freya are two of my favourite names. What does DH think?

Other names I love, as we seem to have similar taste, are:

Rosa
Daisy
Esther
Harriet
Eve

Martha and Freya are gorgeous names. One of those

DuchessOfSausage · 05/06/2023 20:56

Martha
Margot is too trendy and looks like Maggot

CaribbeanCupcake · 05/06/2023 20:58

I love Margot- such a pretty name! Congratulations on your new baba! X

SuperbSummer2023 · 05/06/2023 21:00

You don't love it, so don't use it!! It doesn't matter you've told family/friends, lots of people change their minds, they'll get over it.

chloe
daisy

pull up a names list and something will appeal to you

zoomiesdrivememad · 05/06/2023 21:10

Martha

WhisperingAutistic · 05/06/2023 21:11

Definitely Martha. I love that name.

Fiadht · 05/06/2023 21:12

I really do love Margot, I would stick with it. People are harsh on pretty much every name on here. My son’s name was ripped to shreds on here but in real life people love it and it’s now one of the most popular names where I stay! I watch Billie and Greg the family diaries on itv and they have a baby called Margot. It makes me like the name a lot when you see her on there ☺️

Neverwrestlewithapig · 05/06/2023 21:13

Marla, Marnie or Merryn?

stardust40 · 05/06/2023 21:23

I wouldn't change to Martha as very similar. We announced dd name and then I just didn't think it suited her so we changed it! She has some cards in her memory box with her original name on but it will make for a great story!

KezzabellaB · 05/06/2023 21:28

Not keen on Margot sorry, but love both Freya and Martha. How does your DH feel about them?

continentallentil · 05/06/2023 21:28

I like Margot! it’s nicely 30s

I love Freya I have to say - but Martha makes me think of the handmaid’s tale so no.

I think Marguerite is softer and prettier than Margot and lends itself to nicknames (Daisy, Meg).

PickledMuffin · 05/06/2023 21:33

I love Sylvie, Celeste or Freya ♥️

Outdamnspot23 · 05/06/2023 21:35

I like Margo but how about you go for Marguerite and you could call her Margie for short. (Like Marjee)

kezziecakes · 05/06/2023 21:36

Margot is gorgeous. I also like Martha

CrazyArmadilloLady · 05/06/2023 21:38

I far prefer Margot to Martha - Martha is so dreary.

Bootsandcats12 · 05/06/2023 21:40

Thanks, all. Some really good suggestions here.

DH likes Freya but doesn’t think it goes with our other children’s names 🙄 We have two under 5 and when asked about Martha earlier my eldest pronounced it ‘mar-fa’ which has taken the shine off somewhat - I’d be forever correcting the mispronunciation 🫣

I was in the same position as you. Struggling for names I loved and dh had one he loved and I didn’t mind. We went with that. She’s two now and I do regret it. Like you I wanted something softer like Faye. I don’t like Margot. I’d go with something else

sandberry · 05/06/2023 21:43

I’m glad I named my kids names I don’t love. I liked them well enough but they aren’t my favourites.

my favourite names I had images of, images I’d put onto that child, I’d be attached to the name, be upset if they hated it or changed it. They’ve grown into their names they are just them and I can be dispassionate about their names because they weren’t my dreamed of names, they were pleasant compromises.

DancedByTheLightOfTheMoon · 05/06/2023 21:58

Jodie
Grace
Esme
Rosa

NuffSaidSam · 05/06/2023 22:02

I love Margot and think it's by far the nicest of your options, but if you don't love it then I don't think it's the right one for you.

ComeTheFuckOnBridgett · 05/06/2023 22:08

I don't love Margot, sorry (we all can't like the same names though!). If you don't love it, pick a different one. You have time, even if it's not long. I think Martha is pretty.

SneezyEvie · 05/06/2023 22:19

If you still can’t bond with the name after 6 weeks, I’d pick another or it will forever haunt you.

I really like Margot but if YOU don’t then it doesn’t matter what people tell you on here.

You seem to be drawn to Martha. I wouldn’t worry about the f pronunciation for now, the siblings are still so little. They will learn to pronounce it properly in time with correction.

Let us know what you choose!

entangledconker · 05/06/2023 22:20

I like Martha too.
How about Kitty, Violet, Petal or Nella (Penelope)?
