We finally agreed on a name for our future daughter. We let go of the parents/relatives names. And I am happy about it. His name's girl version is beautiful but mine is awful. I don't even tell people, I use my middle name.

I was thinking maybe we could use an alternative. Do you know any name that sounds like Karen ? I was thinking of Kerry. But I'd love to hear about more options.

I worked with a lovely lady called Caryn, close enough but also different enough too

strawberry2017 · 24/05/2023 19:45

I'm confused, why are you using your names, especially if you hate yours. Give them something unique that you actually like.

Kiera Kira Kara Cara Carla Kirsten Carena Karena Kianna Kasey Cora
Keeley Kirena

I’m a Kerry& not that I hate it or anything, but I feel like it’s such a boring name! My mum & dad debated between Kerry & Tamagin .. I’m not sure how Kerry won! It does the job and as I say, I don’t hate it, it’s just plain! If you feel strongly against your name, there has to be names you can create based on yours & hubbies names/middle names! Can you track back to grandpaerants names and pull in something that would work? Don’t settle because your partner likes a name. You have to love it too!

What about keran? I went to school with a girl called that..

Choose another name 🤷‍♀️ Don’t overthink it, it’s supposed to be fun and they won’t really care. Enjoy

Middleagedspreadisreal · 24/05/2023 20:57

Don't give her a middle name. They're not necessary.

Buddug · 24/05/2023 21:01

Erin, Irene, Lauren, Seren (Welsh for star).

ValarieKK · 24/05/2023 21:16

Perhaps if you have any Welsh, Irish or Scottish ancestry? Try changing to their translation of Karen. Caren in Welsh. Cari too.
I believe both mean beloved.
Although personally I think Karen is such a lovely name. I understand though. 😘

My name is Karen and I say to my mum that she called me the most common girl's name - there were 10 in my year at school - and now it's an insult? I wouldn't wish the name on a child. I work with a lot of 20 somethings ( agency staff) and as soon as I say my name I feel judged.

Rosejasmine · 25/05/2023 07:20

Caron sounds the same but doesn’t have the same connotations. It’s quite nice with that spelling, feels different….
I know a Caron and example you might know of is Caron Keating

T1Dmama · 25/05/2023 09:12

The insults are ridiculous and say more about the bullies who use it to undermine people who dare to have an opinion. sod the silly people who use it negatively… they need to grow up.
Karen is ok as a middle name surely? I wouldn’t use it as a first name but middle is fine, particularly if she’s having two middle names. But you could just spell it differently. I have a friend who spells it ‘Karyn’ or you could even spell it ‘Caryn’.

user4567890754 · 25/05/2023 09:19

Karen is derived from Katherine. So you could call her that, or any other derivation … eg Catriona, Kaia, Katia, Kasia, Kitty…

You 'want your names for middle names for your daughter'? But you don't want that. Your husband is 'insisting'.

Insisting that you call your own baby a name you hate. Regardless of it being your own name, can't you see how ridiculous that is?

The whole thing is daft. As is choosing a name that isn't your name at all but picking it because it's like your name but it's not your name. Confused

Agree ☝️ pick a name that you both like. Much easier. O

33goingon64 · 25/05/2023 09:57

Not read past the first page tbh but just in case no-one else has mentioned it - you could use your maiden surname (assuming you use your husband's surname) or your mother's or grandmother's maiden surname? I know a few people who did this.

Feraldogmum · 25/05/2023 11:23

Please don’t saddle your kid with a name you hate, you’ll end up not using it which will cause problems.
Give your child a name you like and use your name or middle name, for their middle ( redundant)name if you must and tell hubby to get a grip.
My parents named me Christina Louise but then mum decided folk would shorten Christina to Tina which she hated, hence for 55 years I’ve been Louise and have to constantly explain to folk Drs/dentists etc to call me Louise. Piggin nightmare if someone picks up a prescription for me and I’ve forgotten to tell them.
My eldest brother is Robert David, but has always been David,so my parents were serial offenders. In fairness dad was Robert Christopher but always Chris, grandad Robert William Christopher ,again Kit ( Chris), so something of a tradition , which I ended.
