I am just wondering. Since dd was born 4 weeks ago we have had lot's of people comment on her name. Both close family and friends.
Fair enough if it isn't what you would choose but i could never say to someone i don't like your choice after they have called their child that.
We have had plain ooh i don't like that to omg that's a name of a 90 year old woman.
Poor dp who chose it and now i am thinking poor dd !
By the way it's Martha!

Of course I woudln't it would be bloody rude and it's none of my business

Sparkletastic · 16/02/2008 16:57

Lovely name so I'd never say it but not even if your dd was called Ermintrude as it is just plain rude!!

Carmenere · 16/02/2008 16:59

O FGS get better friends, Martha is a lovely name and I have liked all the Marthas I have ever met. And no I certainly would never actually tell someone if i didn't like the name they choose for their child. But then I was well brought up.

hercules1 · 16/02/2008 16:59

No, i wouldnt. I considered Martha as a name for my dd.

theyoungvisiter · 16/02/2008 17:01

Martha is a lovely name - I know several.

And no, I would never comment on someone else's choice of name - well except in a good way!

ZippiBabes · 16/02/2008 17:01

no i wouldn't

WideWebWitch · 16/02/2008 17:02

Oh hadn't noticed it was Martha, it's a LOVELY name, dd was nearly Martha.

belgo · 16/02/2008 17:02

how incredibly rude some people are!

And they obviously have bad taste - as Martha is a lovely name

Thanks ! Just thought i was being over sensitive.
I really don't care whether they like it or not but agree it is rude to say it and tbh family have been worse.
The classic line we get now is 'well i am getting use to it'

Martha is cool....definately cool.

kiskidee · 16/02/2008 17:04

no i wouldn't

can't understand why anyone would.

pootleflump · 16/02/2008 17:05

I really like it, I know 3 little Martha's and they're all lovely.

policywonk · 16/02/2008 17:07

If I ever have a DD she will be a Martha (DP permitting) - I think it's a lovely name.

Maybe your relations associate it with older women - my granny (long deceased) was a Martha. I think it's one of those names that was in fashion 80-100 years ago, went out of fashion, and has now emerged again. Bloody rude of people to comment though.

My friends ds has a very .. errr unusual name, I actually don't like to say it I consider it that awful BUT I wouldn't say a word to her about it.

Why would you, what do you possibly gain, other than upsetting a friend, its not like they'll say damn yes you're absolutely right and change the child's name by deed poll.

Martha is lovely BTW

expatinscotland · 16/02/2008 17:10

No, that is so rude.

hatwoman · 16/02/2008 17:10
  1. I adore the name Martha - dd2 was very nearly Martha.
  1. If I didn;t like it and I'd met you I wouldn't dream of saying anything other than "that's nice"
hatwoman · 16/02/2008 17:13

and fwiw hatrick I adore the name Kitty too!

fletchaaarr · 16/02/2008 17:15

Martha is a lovely name, I really like it

I once met a glumdalclich, and thought that was an appalling name to give your child, but I never said so as it was none of my business and I didn't have to live with it

DD was almost Martha, she is an Edith instead which is far more old ladyish lovely name, not so lovely people making comments, difficult I know but ignore

alfiesbabe · 16/02/2008 17:16

What a rude thing to do.As someone said, Martha is a name that was popular about 100 years ago and is making a comeback, so maybe some people still associate it with the past. But even so, that's no excuse for rudeness
