What baby names did you love but didn't use? Do you wish you did?

I loved Roman but it didn’t go with our surname (also ends in an).

I did put it on a post here and a mumsnetter said she was using it for her baby so that’s lovely.

Names I loved but DH didn’t:

Jude
Reuben
Raphael
Oisín

Enko · 23/03/2023 09:54

Bastian. Don't regret it though as ds really suits his name.

Eranzer · 23/03/2023 10:02

Fraser
Jasper
Joaquin
Damien
Alexander

He talked me out of Jasper and Joaquin because they're apparently 'too out there', and he talked me out of Damien because of The Omen Grin

MooseBreath · 23/03/2023 10:08

Gerard "Gerry"
Gilbert "Gill"
Linus
Atticus
Odhran

DH vetoed all of these except Atticus, which he responded to with "Twatticus, Fatticus, Who-datticus". Then had the nerve to ask last week why we didn't use the name for DS2 because he really loves it.

Mine are late teens. Both girls so I didn't get to use Jack. Dh wanted Daniel. Not sure Jack and Daniel go that well together

Orangemug · 23/03/2023 10:13

Gabriel. My sister put me off it a few days after I found out I was pregnant. I then chose Arie which means Lion of God in Hebrew. No regrets over the name I chose.

2chocolateoranges · 23/03/2023 10:17

Zachary
Jacob
Harrison

zachary didn’t go with surname and dh wasn’t keen on Jacob, Harrison was a close contender but we agreed on another name.

nowaworriedmum · 23/03/2023 10:18

Sonny
Kitt
Jett
Gabriel

Rockingcloggs · 23/03/2023 10:18

I really really wanted a Jimmy but got a George instead!

PurBal · 23/03/2023 10:20

Christopher

Rufus! Loved it. Still love it.

But when DS was a tiny newborn and DH leaned over his cot in the hospital and said, “Baby Rufus. Hello Roo,” I didn’t like the nickname Roo at all, and it made me like the name Rufus less! So we went with something else.

SophiaSW1 · 23/03/2023 10:34

Stanley.

thymewaster · 23/03/2023 10:38

Mylo
Emmet

Natsku · 23/03/2023 10:38

Aslak. Always loved the name and wanted to name a son it but in the end I decided as I don't live in Lapland it would be a bit weird to name him that.

RudsyFarmer · 23/03/2023 10:43

Gabriel
Cassius
Caspian
Maximus
Oberon
Emmanuel

So basically long, pretentious names 🤣

mumonthehill · 23/03/2023 10:45

Noah as a friend called hers this. Hebe, but i did not have a girl!!

nowaworriedmum · 23/03/2023 10:45

Rupert.

MadameSzyszkoBohusz · 23/03/2023 10:47

Samuel was my first choice for DS but I got outvoted by DH and DD.

I also Barnaby, Leo and Issac, but DH vetoed them.

CastleTower · 23/03/2023 10:58

Alexander would have been my choice, but DH wasn't keen. Still love it! But we picked a name that doesn't belong to anyone in our family/wider circle already, which is probably a good thing.

Also love Gabriel and Ronan, but neither felt right in the moment when we came to decide.

I have a Jimmy (James officially)

I loved Frederick for my second, but she's a girl so didn't use it. Knowing her now I think she would have been Fred or Rick for short.

Twizbe · 23/03/2023 11:15

Also I love Richard, but it's my brothers name so couldn't use it.

ComeTheFuckOnBridgett · 23/03/2023 11:16

Sidney
Roman
Kasper

scrivette · 23/03/2023 11:17

Riven. It rhymes with the surname.
Coincidentally my cousin suggested it as a name when DS was born, I didn't think anyone would have heard of it.
