What baby names did you love but didn't use? Do you wish you did?

At my granddaughter's school concert this week there was a boy called Fox (forget the surname) which I really like- I thought I'd never heard of it being used as a name before, but wasn't someone in the X Files called Fox?

whenthelightsgoout26 · 24/03/2023 17:29

If our daughters were boys, they would have been Maximilian and Jasper. Our son is Jenson.

HuggingtheHRT · 24/03/2023 18:53

Seth
Ivor
Lawrence

All vetoed by DH

Also Patrick, which didn't work with our surnames.

MajorCarolDanvers · 24/03/2023 18:58

Lauren, Kirsten, Andrea

James, Alexander, Michael

I loved the names:
Luca - We don't have Italian heritage
Nico - DH said it seemed like a girl's name 😪
August - DH said it didn't work as he wasn't born in August...
Cassius - Too Roman for DH
Ezra - Too biblical for DH (I am actually glad I didn't use this because of PLL)
Leo - The star sign bothered him
Rory - He hated it (I'm glad I didn't use this because Gilmore Girls got very popular and I didn't want people thinking he was a girl)

He loved traditional names and so we eventually got to the names Alexander and James. And so my son is now called Alexander with the middle name James. 😊I don't wish I used any old names as even though I do love them all still I can't imagine my boy as anything but an Alex!!

ourflagmeansdeath · 24/03/2023 19:00

I also went through a phase where if I ever had a son born in August I'd name him August Leo because it could be his star sign too...glad I never did that!! 😂

LilacSloth · 24/03/2023 19:12

I liked these but DH didn't:
Nicholas (thought Nico would be a cute)
Luke
Seth
Zach
Dominic (didn't particularly like Dom and could only think of Raab and Cummings)!

Starwind74 · 24/03/2023 19:13

Gabriel, Daniel, Isaac, Reuben, Jacob, Bartholomew

Variously vetoed by DH, already in use by friends/family, baggsied by my sister (who then didn’t use it) or we chickened out (that was Bartholomew).

We went with an alternative Old Testament option!

I bet your kid is glad that you never landed them with Bartholomew would take them forever to learn to write it.
Even the local St Bartholomew's church gets shortened to St Bart's

44and63 · 24/03/2023 19:18

Marcus
Noah

QueryQueen · 24/03/2023 19:18

@HuggingtheHRT we have similar taste.

Ivan and Patrick vetoed by dh, but we used another from your list :)

If i had a ds now, I would like to use Peter or John also.

Paesano · 24/03/2023 19:21

Calum
Angus
Aidan
Fergus
Eddie

Kam610 · 24/03/2023 19:23

For us it was between Alexander (in Scotland the NN is Sandy) and George. We chose George in the end which we don't regret at all. I also loved Jasper, as we had our honeymoon in the Canadian Rockies and conceived when we were there, but DH wasn't keen on the name.

Phoebo · 24/03/2023 19:24

Hamish, Liam, Kiian,

Ilovemydoggie · 24/03/2023 19:24

Rufus

3ormorecharacters · 24/03/2023 19:27

I love Joseph and we nearly got to use it until I reminded him that his ex wife was a Jo 😂

Also liked Toby and Matthew but DH vetoed. We've ended up with a Welsh name which was the only one we agreed on, I like it but four months in am already annoyed at having to constantly explain now to spell / pronounce it...

DiaryofWimpyMumm · 24/03/2023 19:28

Ethan

My mum said it sounded too close to ethane gas.

We are in Scotland she's English it sounds nothing like Ethane. But I like his name it's been mentioned a few times on this thread

COPPER3 · 24/03/2023 19:28

Seth
Seamus (Shay) for short

Love these names..3 boys and I didn't chose as DH didn't like, plus would not have gone with our surname.

IhearyouClemFandango · 24/03/2023 19:30

Christopher (Kit)
Edward (Ned/Ted)
Robin

Is it Bryn?

areweonabreak · 24/03/2023 19:31

I had twin girls (and we didn’t find out what we were having to had to have all options)

I struggled so much with boys names but my favourites were Gabriel, Alexander, Jerry & Albert

Girliefriendlikespuppies · 24/03/2023 19:34

Alfie.

I'd have used it if dd was a ds.

Just think it's a lovely boys name.

WingingIt101 · 24/03/2023 19:35

Only had girls but my boy list was

Sebastian
Arlo
Kit
Rafferty
