What baby names did you love but didn't use? Do you wish you did?

Isambard

OceanbreezeSun · 23/03/2023 11:26

I liked Leo, Micah, Brodie, Fraser, Eli, Freddie, Jacob and Zak. Dh didn’t like Leo, Eli or Jacob, we already knew a couple of Freddie’s. He wasn’t 100% about Brodie. I’ve gone off it too since then.

We came across our ds name a few days before he was born, it was like a lightbulb - we both just went ‘yes, that’s it!’

We would have gone with Zak otherwise. Still one of my fave boys names, would have had it as a middle name but it didn’t go.

Kingsley and Anakin. I've gone off them both now but loved them at the time!

LonelyInTheOcean · 23/03/2023 11:32

Sebastian
Nathaniel
Joshua
Joel

I had girls but our boys names were Rufus and Benjamin

Kranke · 23/03/2023 11:42

Florian - may use this in the future!
Frederick - hate Freddie so wouldn’t choose it
Ludo
Douglas - hate Duggie
Fraser

Gerard "Gerry"
Gilbert "Gill"
Linus
Atticus
Odhran

DH vetoed all of these except Atticus, which he responded to with "Twatticus, Fatticus, Who-datticus". Then had the nerve to ask last week why we didn't use the name for DS2 because he really loves it.

Who-datticus hahahahahaha

Snorted in my tea haha

CoffeeChocolateWine · 23/03/2023 11:44

Lots. But the big one was Luke which I had had picked out as a child but then married a man with lots of 'Ks' in his surname and it sounded awful with it!

Also
Theo
Jude
Dominic
Dmitri
Etienne
Caspian

Most I didn't use because I had girls and some because I wasn't brave enough/felt I couldn't because I wasn't the nationality! Still happy with the boys names I did get to use though!

I really really wanted a Jimmy but got a George instead!

Well George Bailey was arguably Jimmy Stewart’s best character so a decent compromise!

I had girls but my top boy names were:

Hugo
Woody
Vincent
George

Also loved

Spike
Buster
Rex
Kit
Fletcher

but would never have the nerve to use them as they do admittedly sound like a pack of dogs 😂

😂😂 well that would have cemented Atticus as a firm favourite for me!

BrainOnFire · 23/03/2023 12:15

Adam - doesn't work with our surname
Alistair - couldn't use for family reasons
William - DH vetoed
Joshua - my friend used it just before us
Sebastian - DH vetoed

BadgeronaMoped · 23/03/2023 12:18

Thomas, Peter and Daniel.

Snoopystick · 23/03/2023 12:21

Had a bit of a list and some same as PPs; Gabriel, Noah, Raphael, Miles, Elliott

OddshoesOddsocks · 23/03/2023 12:23

Another Atticus here!

also Cassius, Arlo and Kevin.

dp thought they were all jokes then suggested Isambard.

we were set on Chester for dc3 but realised it clashes with dd2 (Francesca)….. luckily irrelevant and all 3 were girls!

fairtrauchled · 23/03/2023 12:24

Fraser
Lewis
Blair

Caszekey · 23/03/2023 12:28

RudsyFarmer · 23/03/2023 10:43

Gabriel
Cassius
Caspian
Maximus
Oberon
Emmanuel

So basically long, pretentious names 🤣

I see your names and raise you
Balthazar and Thaddeus. I'm not sure I'll ever really get over the regret even tho I love their actual names. I have a Castiel but I sometimes think we should have had Atticus and Cassius 🤣

IsAGirlMumma · 23/03/2023 12:28

Austin

FuckoffeeBeforeCoffee · 23/03/2023 12:31

Thomas.

It's still my absolute favourite boys name.

Sebastian- because I hate Seb.

ladygindiva · 23/03/2023 12:40

Joel
Edward
Alexander
Patrick
Nathaniel

Lelivre · 23/03/2023 12:42

Gabriel

pasbeaucoupdegendarme · 23/03/2023 12:47

Dc3 might have been a Zebedee, but I wasn’t sure if we were cool enough to carry that off. As it turned out she was a she, so it made no difference!

CoolCalmCollected · 23/03/2023 13:13

Nelson (he's 8 now and I can see he would've rocked this name)
Curtis
Nathaniel (nn Nate)
Harris
Miles
Isaac
Isiah
Elijah
Ezekiel (nn Zeke)
Levi
Samson
Gabriel

I found the baby name book we had while I was expecting my first and these were all the ones I had highlighted. I can only think the pregnancy hormones were running wild. Anyway, my husband had a viscerally bad reaction to most of the above names, so we went with a perfectly pleasant, not too common, timeless name.

roarfeckingroarr · 23/03/2023 13:21

Lysander
Ptolemy
Cosmo

DS is Arthur. It suits him perfectly.

Ikeatears · 23/03/2023 13:50

Lewis and Samuel.
It was between Lucas and Lewis and we chose the former
Samuel was going to be a middle name but I casually suggested dh's name as the middle name and he was so enthusiastic (I didn't think he would be) that I didn't have the heart to veto it. Still prefer Samuel though...
