Tallulah.-love this
Tilly (my DD had a guine-pig called Tilly )

DD (20) always asks what she'd have been called if she didn;t have her name and is horrified when I say "Well , I liked Mercedes but would never have actually called you that" but she could've been Sadie ?

I’d LOVE to be called same as my niece.
How sad that despite your SIL being “lovely” you felt you couldn’t name your daughter your favourite name

Think bigger picture and family politics.

The family would likely assume the baby was called after the Auntie, so Op would risk putting the nosies of Grannies and any other Aunties well and truly out of joint.

Not to mention the confusion which Emma is being referred too.

Lacey247 · 10/03/2023 16:53

I also really like Ophelia

Sadie’s a great name. I imagine a Sadie to be very cool with a 60s Twiggy or Edie Sedgwick vibe.

I have always loved Lorelai but my partner vetoed it! Fair enough.
We named our daughter a name we both love, no regrets

I love Lorelei and also Atalanta.

Ultravox · 10/03/2023 16:56

I love the names Eleanor & Laura. Timeless and elegant.

Sugargliderwombat · 10/03/2023 16:56

Didn’t you all name your first daughter (if you have) your favourite name?

No, as my DH hated it. We had to compromise.

DartholomewSpaceInvader · 10/03/2023 16:58

Mireille.

Whatafielddayfortheheat · 10/03/2023 16:58

Aphra. DH vetoed.

Sugargliderwombat · 10/03/2023 16:59

Wait!!! Just remembered my all time favourite- safiya! OH pointed out we would definitely be stealing this name from a culture that isn't ours (layla too but I didn't tell him that). Turns out we had a boy anyway.

Yogity · 10/03/2023 16:59

I know a little girl called Nola and I just love it. Its derivative of Finola in Ireland but so much more wearable I think. Everyone mistakes it for Lola though

ItsaMetalBand · 10/03/2023 16:59

I'm Irish so partial to Irish names.

Fóla / Fódla (prounced Foe-lah) is one I heard and if I'd had a girl I'd have chosen it.
It's from Irish mythology but unlike many current Irish names like Érin, Maebh, Oisín etc, that have had recent popularity I've only known one girl ever called it.

LadyMargaretDevereux · 10/03/2023 17:00

Marigold. I love flower names. Also Bluebell and Lily. I just imagine a house full of lovely eccentric teenage girls all with flower names...

MangoPi · 10/03/2023 17:00

Aurora and Sophia

My OH wasn't sold on Aurora and it felt like every other girl was called Sophia when our daughter was born.

I do love our daughters name too saying that and think it is equally as beautiful (not going to say on here though as it has an unusual spelling so if linked to threads I've created/other things I've commented on would be outing)

Ember

Grace - it’s elegant, simple, traditional and simply doesn’t “age”

AuntyMabelandPippin · 10/03/2023 17:04

I've always loved Louise. Never got to use it as no daughters.

Apollonia1 · 10/03/2023 17:04

My daughter's name is on this thread! ❤️

Names I like, but wouldn't use are:
Valentina
Seraphina
Scherazade
