i like pretty names like harriet, megan, abigail etc

paris isnt very pretty to me, its blonde ugly and slags about

can anyone suggest any names that are inbetween??

fishie - As I said before, it is not DH who eliminates candidates with "teenage popstar" but the Human Resources managers he presents them to. That recruitment professionals discriminate against unusual first names was also the conclusion of the study I posted.

Some parents would take this into account when naming their children. Others wouldn't. It is a personal choice.

There is a French name of Brittany origin called "Nolwenn" which I think is quite pretty.

I went to school with a girl called Kitty, she was incredibly bright and lovely. She was never once picked on because of her name. Kitty is a classic name, it comes from Catherine doesn't it?

In all fairness, I could understand if an employer was to wonder if their business partners could ever take the new associate named 'Pepsi' or 'Moonlight' seriously, but at the end of the day you employ the best person to do the job.

Hi ladies, I have to comment on this thread. First, we have a Kiki at home (Kiara on birth certificate) and her name has now been tested in our three Western European home countries. When we were choosing her name (and what a gruelling process it was), we had to think not only that she will be raised trilingual, but also that we have no idea in which culture she will end up looking for her first job. And this is not only our family, this is 21st century! You'd think my name is unusual and I had 5 namesakes in my class at school. Enlarging EU if not the whole World is increasingly borderless and in 20 year's time when children named today are looking for jobs the first names on CVs are bound to look rather different to the ones today. Furthermore, fashion changes in first names, what is unique today might be the furtherest thing from unique in a couple of decades time. When there are no common, apparently ?safe? names anymore, hopefully recruiters will have to do a little bit more work and actually read the content of an applicant's CV.

Iliketosleep is there any particular reason that your DP likes Paris? Is it because of Paris Hilton, or is it because it is the name of a French city?
Either way, I think is a great name for a boy or girl, regardless of Paris Hilton. By the time your DD is ten, Paris Hilton will (hopefully) be long forgotten.
However, if you really don't like it, don't see that working out!
William Williamson, is certainly a very memorable name and would make a lot of people's day. Bill on it's own, not sure. I asked my little boy if there were any Bills at nursery and he said 'Flubadoo' (flowerpot men).
Other french towns/cities/regions that might be nice as names could be Toulouse, Nimes, Cholet, Nancy, Cluny.

You think that's bad. My DH wants our child to have Oliphant as the middle name no matter what sex it is. I think he beleives it will be funny when DC needs to give their middle name.
