i like sukey, but we would spell it Suikhi

i also like Meredith, Hazel, ELiza, Genevieve and i am sure i have other girls names but i cant remember them.

for a boy we have Sonny, Elliott, Rudi, Arlo or Rufus.

the three we already have are theo, oscar and dylan

good luck, the name thing is a pain...

I thought Sukey was only common in Hawaii and Japan.

Amelie is French. Wouldn't you rather call your daughter Amelia or even Emily?

Am I the only one who feels it is a good thing to choose a name from one's own culture?

iliketosleep · 08/02/2008 21:01

CoteDAzur would you be saying that if someone had suggested Claire?
that's French, and very common here.

according to my baby name book, the oxford dictionary of baby names, which has sukey spelt as sukey, sukie or suikhi, it was well used in the 18th century as a pet form of susan.

we know it as a friends dd was called it, her partner was indian and Suikhi was the spelling they used, i also know a Suikhi whose mum is from jamaica, they also spell it like that

i personally dont like Sukey as a spelling bacause of the nursery rhyme. but thats just me, dp also prefers Suikhi

Sorrel is a nice girls name that is unusual

Lulumama · 08/02/2008 21:12

no, cote, i think you can give your child any name you choose, the names we chose were ones we liked for various reasons, they both have hebrew names to reflect our religious heritage...but we chose their forenames based on names that appealed,.but we found out the meanings etc first

the ciara i know spells it that way, and i beleive it is gaelic
