I seem to have pssed you off, hatrick, despite simply being honest, but I believe I now have a million more reasons to be pssed off at you.

HOW DARE YOU COMPARE NAME DISCRIMINATION TO DISABILITY DISCRIMINATION????

I happen to have several disabilities and it is much more serious than name discrimination. Are you for real??

I have encountered disability discrimination when job seeking and have successfully taken action against these employers. Despite this treatment, I have risen to the top of my current field.

What you don't seem to understand is that Disability discrimiation is illegal, name discrimination is not. Disabilities are not always preventable. Discrimination from an employer regarding your name is preventable.

If your daughter got discriminated against because of her name, she should consider herself f*cking lucky actually because she'll still have an easier time overall finding a job than someone who is deaf, visually impaired, and wheelchair bound among other things.

I'm due to give birth on Saturday. My little girl will be called Niamh. I'm not ashamed to give her name as it's a normal name. I'm very proud to be having her as there were fears I would be unable to have children. Because I consider myself so lucky to be having her, I wouldn't dream of giving her a name she will get bullied for.

Bye

Kitty is a beautiful name Hatrick, take no notice of the ignorance on this thread.

If your daughter is turned down for a job because of her name, then its not a job where she would want to work ...

Am at some of the attitudes here.

well said hatrick

bobbysmum07 · 11/02/2008 22:36

I've got to admit, I'd find it hard to take an adult called Kitty or Kiki seriously.

I suppose they'd fit in ok in the acting or modelling world, but I somehow can't picture a banker called Kiki ...

how unpleasant this is. hatrick i am sorry people have been so rude about your daughter's name. what are they thinking?

cotedazur, why on earth would anybody name their child according to who might interview them for a job? funny headhunter your dh must be, rejecting people regardless of skills.

kizzib you must have a lot to think about with your child being due soon. why not continue to concentrate on that.

fingerwoman · 11/02/2008 22:49

PaulaYatesbiggestFan · 11/02/2008 22:54

my sons name is a shortened version

horror of horror it ends in an 'i'

People were revolting when we first named him but they have warmed over the few sweet years we have had him

According to this thread he will be laughed out of school and should he not be - school will be a fairly pointless excercise as no one in their right minds will look part the top line of his CV

interestingly.....in the first year of his life he had to see paediatricians on a relatively regular basis as he had problems - now resolved..

once when recounting his name i made some quip to the paediatrician about his 'silly name' she told me that he shared the name with her most revered mentor many years back at medical school and thus she loved it!

someone looked past His name
