DD hates her name and surname

She is 15 now.

The pregnancy was so good, the only issue was finding a name!
I could not choose. It was agony.

One day, just before her birth, I woke up from a lovely afternoon nap, the TV was on and 1st thing I heard / saw was an ad of a product with a human and - the image of a lovely young girl (I didn't know the baby's sex). Right at that time I decided if she was a girl she would have that name.

It is an international (could be pretty much from a lot of different countries and cultures) short, simple, easy to spell, sounds good (to my ears) name. In hindsight I could have choses a middle name, but I jus't couldn't ;(

She hates it. Hates her surname too which is a traditional surname in the UK.

Any one dealing with the same at home?

The issue isn’t whether or not the name is Tena or Li-let or Flora, the issue, as expressed in the OP is that the Dd really doesn’t like it.

OP: Loads of teens develop Nick names. Tell her that she will be able to change her name legally when she is of age, and in the meantime, if she chooses to use a ‘known as’ name or a Nick name (which need be nothing like her legal name) it might give her an idea as to whether it is worth doing all the paperwork in future.

For her first name anyway.

We live in an age where teens change gender, get piercings etc.

Being known by a name she prefers isn’t something I would battle her over. Support her and see what happens.

You know she can change it by deed poll.? My son's girlfriend did just that.!

I’m in the same boat, I hate my first and last name but it’s to late to change it 😕for the main reason- who’s this? You know being used to it and all.

I absolutely hated my first name when I was growing up. The only one in my family with a middle name was my dad. So I couldn't refer to myself by a middle name.
It was often shortened, which I was happy with as having my full name used usually meant I was in trouble!
It took me leaving home and hearing a lot more names for me to realise that my name, the whole name or shortened version, isn't really that bad after all!!
Is there a name your DD would like to be known as instead? Maybe as a nickname, to be used by everyone, except in signing legal forms etc? Then she could use that!
