Can we really name our baby girl this?

Hi all,

I am currently 8 and a half months pregnant, myself and DP have been going back and forth on names for a while until we agreed on this around 2 months ago.

The name we would like to use for our girl is Halo.

Our baby's surname will be Raye

Is it too out there? We both love the name but would love to know what others think.

It would be a really bad idea to do this. Her school days would be a misery.

BluePolar · 20/01/2023 07:19

I quite like it.

A good question to ‘test’ the name is, Would you like to be called that?

My husband is Japanese but we live in the UK so we decided on quite biblical names with Japanese inspired middle names. Perhaps you could do similar?

or some other suggestions;

Hiro
Luna
Celeste
Halle
Aya
Ever
Lei

Halo is polishing her halo. Please don't do this.

I guess we wanted something different. But we also don't want to make her stand out too much? We thought with our surname it may have made for a lovely name

It sort of sounds ok in full, but how often do people use full names? A lot less than just first name so imagine the poor child having to say 'Hi, I'm Halo'

Is this inspired by Molly Mae? If it’s not Halo will you be disappointed….

orangegato · 20/01/2023 07:21

I love it. Or Eden Halo Raye.

MistletoeandBaileys · 20/01/2023 07:22

It’s a nice sentiment but I wouldn’t name her that. I also thought if the game Halo when I read it and can also hear Hello Ray too when I said it out loud.

It will be very cute for her while she is teeny tiny but she will one day be a grown adult. It doesn’t age well. I echo pp and think definitely as a middle name and a different first name.

Personally I think Nora Raye has a lovely ring to it! But again all down to preference!! I also thought of Hero as another option but Hero Raye sounds like you’re offering a chap named Ray a sweetie from a box of Heroes!

Is Mollie-Mae really naming the baby Halo? So it will be Halo Fury?? Sounds like an action figure or console game!

Wibbly1008 · 20/01/2023 07:22

No. You shouldn’t have that.

YouSoundLovely · 20/01/2023 07:22

Goodness me no.

If it's the association with light and brightness you want, use Lucy, Zoe or Helen(a).

If it's a kick-ass name, Hero (as per pp) or perhaps Hera (Zeus' wife IIRC) or Athena.

There are times in life for self-indulgence. Naming a new human being is not one of them.

inappropriateraspberry · 20/01/2023 07:25

Is she from a computer game or something? No, it's too much. Halo is bad enough, let alone with Raye. The expectations of her being angelic, being teased for it. You know what she'll be in nativity plays I suppose.

ladydimitrescu · 20/01/2023 07:25

Did you get this from molly mae?
Halo isn't awful, Halo Raye is a stripper.

Wrongsideofpennines · 20/01/2023 07:30

I actually quite like it. I do think it might be a bit ironic if she turns out to be a tearaway with a name that means something angelic but I do like the sound. Unfortunately I don't think it works well with your surname.

Maybe try out Hallie/Halle or Harlow and see if how they feel for a few days.

oakleaffy · 20/01/2023 01:37

This exactly.

''Boring'' classic names don't date, and to lumber a child with a name that will go 'Out of date' quicker than stale milk is unfair.

I agree with this!

Shauna27 · 20/01/2023 00:18

No offence, but definitely no. She's not a product/brand, she will have to live with that name forever.. think of job interviews and her introducing herself as 'Halo'? It's a bizarre name honestly.

Once worked with someone called Starbreeze……

DemBonesDemBones · 20/01/2023 07:34

I think it's lovely. It's not a made up jumble of letters, or a random noise. I think you should go for it.

pickyourown · 20/01/2023 07:35

Angela? I also like Paloma

NellietheElephantpackedhertrunks · 20/01/2023 07:36

No, sorry. She would sound like a film character, not in a good way.

NellietheElephantpackedhertrunks · 20/01/2023 07:36

Or like you can’t spell Hilary.

gogohmm · 20/01/2023 07:37

Made me think of the computer game and it's the name of the driver protection system in formula one. No

hallodarknessmyoldfriend · 20/01/2023 07:38

I think it doesn't go with your surname.

She is in for a lifetime of Hello Rays.

Merlinsbeard83 · 20/01/2023 07:39

Hello Ray 🤣 is this a joke ? Your kid will be called Ray by bully's

Bananaramad · 20/01/2023 07:40

Nellie, my thoughts exactly. When I say it out loud, its sound like you can't pronounce Hillary. I do think Hayley Raye sounds lovely though.

cravingtoblerone · 20/01/2023 07:43

Halo Raye sounds like a video game.

Yes. Or an Indie band.

littlemousebigcheese · 20/01/2023 07:44

Love it! Call her Lo for short which is lovely too

Notellinganyone · 20/01/2023 07:45

How about Hallie? Halo just sounds very slebby/try hard. The kind of name the Beckhams might choose.
