Baby names

Can we really name our baby girl this?

Hi all,

I am currently 8 and a half months pregnant, myself and DP have been going back and forth on names for a while until we agreed on this around 2 months ago.

The name we would like to use for our girl is Halo.

Our baby's surname will be Raye

Is it too out there? We both love the name but would love to know what others think.

Following the Greek mythology theme I also like Clio.

Please don't inflict this on her.

She will spend a lifetime. every time she's asked for her name, having to repeat then spell out her name and explain it. When you hear Halo Raye spoken it's impossible to guess if it's one or two names, a forename, a surname or what. It will be misheard as hello, hilary, or hooray.

What about Hailey? That has the same vibe but it means people won’t laugh at her.

You can call your child whatever you like !

I know a Halo. It really suits them.

I always think you shouldn't ask for thoughts on baby names because people feel differently once it's attached to a child they know.

Hallie Raye?

I’m sure I read that some love island couple are calling their baby Halo. Molly May and Tyson fury I think?

The girls I know with that surname are called Jemma, Summer and Betsy. All sound beautiful (to my ear) with that particular surname.

My 1st thought was that Halo Raye sounds like a star wars character. Sorry op, I don't mean to be harsh. Just my honest opinion.

As some PP have said, Halo is a really, really popular video game. It was the first thing I thought of when I saw your post.

For me, the association with gaming is too strong. It'd be like calling a baby "Minecraft" 😅

I also don't think it goes with the surname.

Sorry OP. Any other names on your shortlist?

I think it's the kind of name people will get used to. I do wonder if she's going to get a hard time when she acts up (as all kids do from time to time) about not living up to her name.

It’s a big risk. She might have the personality to carry it off but she might not. Can you imagine that being your own name? Poor kid.

I think Hailey is nice and is underused don’t know a young one.

my first thought was ‘Summer.’ I think I’d feel instantly warm to someone who introduced themselves as ‘Summer Raye.’

Sorry no. It sounds like a Star Wars character!

Sounds like she’s named after a video game, stripper or porn star

MissMarplesbag · 20/01/2023 07:04

Halo Raye is a stripper or cam girl name. Please don't do this to her because she has to attend secondary school. Have some love and compassion for your baby girl. Choose another name.

Helena Raye?

Would you like to be called Halo? See the eye-roll every time you say your name? Of course not. This isn't a time to show how clever and unique you are.

Please no.

I’d probably try to think of something else but if you love it then it’s your baby and your choice.

id be keen to know where you’re from. I’m originally from Yorkshire and I always remember years ago overhearing a mum with a boy called Orlando. However they had a very strong accent and said it like “orrrr - lan -doorrrrr” and it was awful. I’m imagining “hey - lor”.

No, sorry. It’s really awful.

it’s the second time I’ve heard this name as well. I think that Molly Mae from love island is calling her daughter it.

it just doesn’t even sound nice to say.

It’s the hormones, OP!

Is the angelic connection important? How about Angel / Angela / Angelica / Angelina, or Michaela / Gabrielle / Gabriella / Raphaella? If it’s the sound you like, how about Hallie?

Report
Outfor150 · 20/01/2023 07:17

I don’t think it works with your surname.
Hallie? Holly? Personally, I’d go for three syllables.
