Just out of interest really - is there a specific boy or girl name you just can’t stand?

Bree - I just hear Brie or debris
Pamela - sickly sweetness
Wren - it's unimaginative/boring

Boys names, anything ending in -den or -son will make me think a gangsta life awaits.

loislovesstewie · 02/01/2023 06:30

William. Or any 'Victorian' name. They remind me of elderly uncles wearing huge trousers with braces and belt.

Xanadu58 · 02/01/2023 06:37

Ethan . Makes me think of methane. I don't like Nathan either . I think it's the 'than' sound

mintdaisy · 02/01/2023 06:42

It's often suggested on here but I just don't like the name Luna. I don't like the sound. For boys I dislike Arlo, again it is more to do with the sound but also how current it is.

StClare101 · 02/01/2023 06:45

I have a long list of names I dislike….

All the Jayden/Brayden types along with the Jackson types.

Anything that sounds like a last name. Your kid doesn’t need to sound like a law firm.

Pretentious names such as Tarquin etc.

Nickname as proper names such as Livi, Charlie, Tommy etc.

Any name ending in Belle or Bella such as Isabelle,Annabelle etc.

I could go on :-)

Luna and Arlo are great dog names though.

Otillie. All I hear is otter,
ophelia

names like
river
forrest
winter

Mol1628 · 02/01/2023 06:54

Made up hyphenated names. Ie Elsie-Grace. Georgia-Grace. Just look stupid written down and x feel awkward to say.

Agree. I actually hate most of the boring old names suggested on mumsnet when you know there will be at least 2 others in the class. I don't understand why with so many great options, people seem to stick to the same 20-30 names Confused

Nevaeh

I hated this name the moment I heard it. A colleague told me that it was the name of her newborn granddaughter and that it was heaven backwards. All i could say was ‘you realise she’s never going to find that on a key ring’

The names I’ve heard and thought, how could you, are Tinkerbell, Diamanté and Storm.

Underroad · 02/01/2023 07:05

I obviously dislike hyphenated names and all the braden/Jayden/Kayden ones as most people do, but I also have a completely irrational dislike of Alice. It’s a perfectly decent nane with no bad associations but I hate it. Something about it sounds smug.

Searchingforsunshine · 02/01/2023 07:06

Kate and jaxon/Jackson

DrMarciaFieldstone · 02/01/2023 07:09

OneStepOneStumble · 02/01/2023 00:17

Jayden/cayden/brayden

Just can't stand them

agree.

Also Logan/Brogan/Grayson etc

DaisyCornflowerBlue · 02/01/2023 07:12

Agree on anything hyphenated. No.
Also, I hate the name Seren.

What an unpleasant thread populated by so many unpleasant and judgemental people.

Oh come on 😄😄 YOU’RE being judgmental in your post! My name is on this thread (and to be fair I semi-agree). Would be boring if we all had the same taste, variety is the spice of life.

SheilaFromTheFuture · 02/01/2023 07:16

Some people question why we named our children one name but call them by a nickname. I just used to say that if we have a third we’d name him Rodney but call him Dave.

ZforZebra · 02/01/2023 07:17

Virtue names: Chastity, Charity, Heavenly, Hero, Mercy etc.

JenniferWooley · 02/01/2023 07:26

My name is on the thread, as is DD1's - DD2's name will most likely show up at some point & be described as a bit wet (it usually does).

The only names I really dislike are Erin & Mirren... I just don't like the way they sound or look.

spanieleyes · 02/01/2023 07:27

Anything not spelled correctly.

KangarooKenny · 02/01/2023 07:31

Any double barrelled Christian names, sounds like they are going to a rodeo.
And anyone named after a country or car. Yes, I’m talking about you Tesla.

KalvinPhillipsBoots · 02/01/2023 07:35

@GoldenCagedBird you really are sad 🙄

20viona · 02/01/2023 07:36

I HATE Evelyn

Mittens1717 · 02/01/2023 07:38

Ottilie and Wren, just awful, also lots of L and M names that all blend into each other like Luna, Lexi, Lena, Lila, Mila, Myla, Mia etc
For boys Milo/ Miles and Kit are terrible

Mittens1717 · 02/01/2023 07:40

Also agree with above post about Evelyn, just so frumpy

Porridgeislife · 02/01/2023 07:41

Leo. Such a strange name to saddle a little boy with.
