Just out of interest really - is there a specific boy or girl name you just can’t stand?

Anything with a silly spelling
Anything double barrelled

FayCarew · 11/11/2023 17:59

@JaneJeffer , that's what it sounds like where I am.

Samzzz · 11/11/2023 22:42

Olive. Awful.

user1477391263 · 12/11/2023 05:03

Oh gosh, yes.

A nice character in fiction can usually endear a name to me, but even the lovely little girl in Little Miss Sunshine could not rescue the name Olive. Just….why?

squidgem · 02/01/2023 03:27

Sienna, I have an irrational hate for this name and I can't explain why.

Another vote for Sienna. Hate the name.

FanofBusted · 12/11/2023 09:15

Hedjwitch · 12/03/2023 14:41

I know a Kenzie. Horrible name

Yeah agree.
the two I know were bullies.

DesertSnow · 12/11/2023 09:44

Arabella. Just too fussy.

PercivalWolfrick2000 · 12/11/2023 09:46

Anything with Mae and Rose as a hyphenated name.
Hugo, William, Stanley, Cosima, Arabella, Esme and Elizabeth.

Tbh most of the obnoxious sounding names people suggest on the name boards here. When someone says they like Autumn or something and someone suggests names like Winifred Bourgeois Clementine or Millicent

Ironically both my kids names are on here 😂 I love them

35 years ago I could never find my name
on a keyring etc never met anyone with my name now its one of the top 10 and it pisses me off . But least I get key rings now

Chesney

TheAverageJoanne · 18/11/2023 00:12

I can't stand Linsey, Lynsay or silly spelling like Linsy, Linzi etc. Childish and mimsy. I don't mind Lindsey though, spelled properly.

FayCarew · 18/11/2023 09:42

@TheAverageJoanne , the original spelling is Lindsay

Doublebiscuit77 · 18/11/2023 20:35

Elliot
Guy
Parker/Carter/Grayson/most surnames as first names
Lloyd
Austin

Barnaby
Mark
Simon

Lucinda
Maddison
Grace
Mackenzie
Jodie
Eliza
Elspeth
Maude

That's a few more than one though!

RobertaFirmino · 18/11/2023 23:16

Riley, Bray/Cay/Hay/Jay/Kayden, Bree, Noah, Archie, Harry, Albie and today, I have heard of two little children called Enid and Nellie. Bloody awful. I am qualified to judge, my own name is not only awful but Gaelic and unpronounceable too.

Hedjwitch · 19/11/2023 10:00

AwwwI love the name Guy!

Know of a new baby Dulcie which I thought was an unpleasant sounding name.

takemehomecountryroads · 19/11/2023 10:03

Callum. It sounds like someone clearing their throat - also sounds a bit like Gollum.

takemehomecountryroads · 19/11/2023 10:05

CockleburIck · 07/11/2023 09:58

Forgot to mention Engine oil, too. Sorry, I mean Imogen!

Imogen is awful. See also Isabel/Isobel.

Is a bell. Awful!

DrMarciaFieldstone · 19/11/2023 10:06

Esme, Ottilie, Edith

Viviennemary · 19/11/2023 11:04

Paige. I loathe it. And Toby. Can't bear Imogen.

tokesqueen · 19/11/2023 11:48

Anything ending in ie.

ScruffMuffin · 19/11/2023 12:01

I haven't read the full thread. My name and my DCs are probably on here somewhere.

Anyway: Oscar, Olive, Oliver, Olivia - not sure why, but olive being an actual food (that I'm not keen on) and Oliver containing 'liver' probably contribute.

Archie, Stanley, Albert - I know they're all very popular right now, but they seem weird to me on little kids. One is also the name of a very nasty family member.

Anything with a hyphen.

Most surnames as first names, e.g. Riley, Cooper, Parker, Harper, Carter - especially on girls. There are plenty of other nice gender-neutral names, e.g. nature names, if that is what you want. Most of the above just sound ugly to me.

Names that have been engineered just so that the parents can use a certain nickname or unrelated name, e.g. (and you won't find this in any thread here because it's just an example): wanting to call the baby Lara and asking if Hilary would be OK for the birth certificate. Or wanting to call her Bunny and wondering if Naomi is suitably close in sound.

FayCarew · 19/11/2023 13:58

@ScruffMuffin , There's a thread where the OP was thinking of Ava nn Vivi.

ScruffMuffin · 19/11/2023 14:32

@FayCarew aargh, they need to choose one or the other! Vivi would be short for Vivienne, wouldn't it?

goodgriefsean · 19/11/2023 14:35

Freya, don't know why it just has a whiney quality to my ear.
McKenzie as a first name.
Teddy- infantile and overly cutesy.
Wren/Juniper- invariably suggested on every girls name thread, I don't get the appeal and think they will date quickly as seem to be a fad.

FayCarew · 19/11/2023 14:59

@goodgriefsean , Freya makes me think of frayed.
I don't like Darcey/Darcy/Darcie at all.
Names like Wren don't sound or look right as first names
I don't like Arlo
