Just out of interest really - is there a specific boy or girl name you just can’t stand?

I like Evelyn, but it’s a family name so I’m used to it.

i apologise to those called the above. One of my close family names is on this thread more than once. I can take it. It’s just people’s opinions and we all judge.

Emma, Lucy, Simon and Robin

Jackandjamie · 02/01/2023 07:48

Fin, Freya, otillie and Ophelia.

StormySam · 02/01/2023 07:52

I am quite easy going about names but I draw the line at Candida (a girl I knew at uni had this name and we are in our 30s now). There is no excuse for this name. A lifetime of embarrassment for that girl.

Agree with double or hyphenated. Double points for -May or -Rae.

I cannot STAND Bodhi unless you are Buddhist.

Also Beau, Lexi, Riley and Brodie

23mum · 02/01/2023 07:53

Anyone else just looking to see if their DC's names are on here?👀

KangarooKenny · 02/01/2023 07:54

I was at school with a Tammy, so she got called Tammy Tampax.

Crazyinlove123 · 02/01/2023 07:57

Try hard to look posh names like Tobias, Sebastian, Bartholomew, Tarquin, Atticus etc.

Shunkleisshiny · 02/01/2023 08:05

Surnames as first names, Harrison, Jackson, Tyler, Riley. Also intials, TJ/DJ/CJ.

TenoringBehind · 02/01/2023 08:06

Names spelt incorrectly

What an unpleasant thing to ask. There are bound to be people either called the names mentioned here or have dc with that name. Why would anyone want to be that unkind? Strange, given all that’s going on in the world right now.

Are you new here?

Riley
Anything hyphen May or Mae

Hilarious, I came to say the Mae thing and it's the first post on here. Not just me then!

One of my DC’s name is. I’m not surprised. I know what MN thinks of it. He likes his name though.

My name isn’t on the thread. But only because it’s so bad, it’s basically extinct in younger generations. It would appear within an instant on any ‘names that should never be revived’ thread. I’m never insulted by that. It’s a terrible name. Sounds crap. Even worse if you shorten it in any way. Of course it’s going to come up.

eatdrinkandbemerry · 02/01/2023 08:13

Nevaeh and Teddy 🤷‍♀️
I honestly can't imagine a grown up Teddy

23mum · 02/01/2023 08:14

@TheYummyPatler my DD's name is also very old fashioned so I haven't seen it on here - but have had many people tell me to my face it's an awful name, lol.

Purplemagnolias · 02/01/2023 08:16

Alfie, Archie, Teddie, Cutie type names - soo twee and babyish. I feel they sound a little dated now so hopefully will fall out of fashion soon.

Any thread on a baby names board will include posts where people explain, in more or less colourful ways, why all sorts of names are crap. Those will be names people have called their DCs.

If you don’t want to learn that other people think your child’s name sounds like they’ve got phlegm in their throat or people associate it with a character in Shakespeare or whatever, maybe stay away from name threads.

Purplemagnolias · 02/01/2023 08:17

William as it contains Willi Blush

Given all that’s going on in the world right now we need a little levity. My own name has been mentioned and that of my children, it’s ok though because I don’t know these people and IRL people don’t get introduced and say ‘oh, nice to meet you Sheila, that’s a horrible name, what were your parents thinking?’

Rabbitsandhabits · 02/01/2023 08:23

Agree with George (yes to the Georgie Porgie stodgy connotations) and William.

really dislike Harry for similar reasons.

I have a visceral response to Jessica. Have never understood why it’s so popular it sounds horrible to me.

Similar response to Imogen. It sounds harsh and like a body part.

Spanielsarepainless · 02/01/2023 08:23

All the 'cute puppy' names. It's as if people don't think their baby will ever be an adult.

musicalfrog · 02/01/2023 08:24

Do we win a prize if our DC names don't appear in this thread??
