Everest - too out there?

SaraAppleseed · 01/01/2023 20:48

My partner and I met while attempting to climb Mount Everest.

Fast forward a few years and we are now expecting. We love the idea of having a name linked to where we met and have pretty much settled on a boys name but we are finding it hard to think of a girls name.

For a boy we are going for Everett Archer (Archer being my maiden name).

My husband suggested just going for Everest for a girl but I don’t know if it’s too (out there).

She would also have the middle name Archer. Everest Archer?

Any comments or suggests on related girls names?

I immediately thought of windows.....everest windows. ?

CarolDunne · 01/01/2023 21:54

Imagine teenage boys all trying to mount everest

fatsocatso · 01/01/2023 21:55

Sorry, OP, another one here who can just hear the 'Mount Everest' jokes from the snotty teenage lads when she's older. I work with teenage boys. This WILL happen if you have a girl and call her Everest.

Love Parvati!

TheaBrandt · 01/01/2023 21:55

Would you like to be called Everest ? I wouldn’t and I can tell you neither of my teens or their friends would either. Mortifying

Also avoid Eve it’s totally overused every other girl is named this now

WunWun · 01/01/2023 21:55

It says double glazing to me too.

DomesticShortHair · 01/01/2023 21:57

I don’t think it’s too popular at the moment, but it’s on the ascent.

Confusion101 · 01/01/2023 21:58

I do like it but would defo think boy immediately but what about it. My child has a name more popular with boys too.

I really really like Evie but pronounced like the start of Everest as opposed to eeeeeve as agree with a fellow teacher PP there are so so many Eves and all it's variations at the moment

Fraaahnces · 01/01/2023 21:58

I like it but then I think of the quote - “Why did Hilary climb Everest? Because it was there.” And I think maybe not.

TheaBrandt · 01/01/2023 22:00

It is here. There are hundreds it gets super confusing all have to be known by surname or worse big Evie/funny Evie / dance Evie etc

TheaBrandt · 01/01/2023 22:00

How ridiculous !!

Do you really think anyone is going to pronounce Evie as 'Evvvv -e' and not 'Eeeee-vie'

They would pronounce it how the majority do.

Blimey I feel sorry for kids these days, what in earth goes through parents' heads??!

EddietheEagle · 01/01/2023 22:02

Actually, my daughter is Evie and she's the only one in her class (age 12), only a couple in the whole year.

Must be lucky I guess? She said she loves her name.

I don't know about you but the majority of the time people are told my name it's via word of mouth. I don't usually spell it out and let them guess or write it down for them. Sorry for offending you so much with my opinion and thanks a million for jumping down my fucking throat about it

EddietheEagle · 01/01/2023 22:05

@Confusion101

Have you never been in a class at school where there is someone who never gets their name pronounced correctly, and the poor child has to correct the teacher every single fucking time????

All because their oh so clever parent wanted to be different??!?!?!

blondiepinka · 01/01/2023 22:06

Love it. Nn Evie perfect

TheaBrandt · 01/01/2023 22:07

When we registered Dd for 6th firm the teacher said “Evie?” As we sat down. We said no not dds name he said “worth a try every other girl this morning has been called Evie”. Maybe we are in an Eve/ Evie hot spot.

I am a teacher! 👍

Judelawsnanny · 01/01/2023 22:10

Loving Base Camp! 😆

BillyAndTheSillies · 01/01/2023 22:10

Love it! Even with the Paw Patrol connotations.

Judelawsnanny · 01/01/2023 22:13

Actually though, if you were attempting Everest did you get past base camp? Kumba icefield? Hilary Step? I'm genuinely interested how far you got as I'm a bit obsessed with Everest!

This is a fair question. If you didn't actually reach the summit, then it's a bit misleading to saddle you child with the name. They will have to explain that their parents almost/ tried to climb Everest.

defi · 01/01/2023 22:18

I love it but would associate it with paw patrol

Iguanainanigloo · 01/01/2023 22:19

No job too big, no pup too small
