Everest - too out there?

My partner and I met while attempting to climb Mount Everest.

Fast forward a few years and we are now expecting. We love the idea of having a name linked to where we met and have pretty much settled on a boys name but we are finding it hard to think of a girls name.

For a boy we are going for Everett Archer (Archer being my maiden name).

My husband suggested just going for Everest for a girl but I don’t know if it’s too (out there).

She would also have the middle name Archer. Everest Archer?

Any comments or suggests on related girls names?

Yeah that's awful, sorry.
Immediately screams Paw Patrol to me. Also sounds like you want to use it just so you can tell people you met in an exciting way. Your kid will get truly fed up of that story.

CaptainMyCaptain · 01/01/2023 21:25

It just says Double Glazing to me but maybe that's my age.

Named after the first white man to scale it; hard no from me. Plus it's terribly try hard.

Er, no. Your information is completely wrong.

tyipat · 01/01/2023 21:29

So where did the name Everest come from?

I'm in agreement with a pp about boys wanting to mount Everest

Zwicky · 01/01/2023 21:31

I thought double glazing (I’m old). I think it would make for a very tedious puberty for a girl. I don’t mind it as a boys name but I say that as someone who only has a vague idea what paw patrol is.

Blendandmix · 01/01/2023 21:32

Everest archer is a boys name. I know 2 little Everests and they're both boys. It is an awful name for a boy but so much worse for a girl esp pairing it with another boy name.

LorenzoVonMatterhorn · 01/01/2023 21:32

eve?

MerryChristmasTree · 01/01/2023 21:33

Your kid will get truly fed up of that story.

Agree, it’s going to be very tedious. For everyone.

Luredbyapomegranate · 01/01/2023 21:34

I would probably think of the window company

It’s fine as a middle name but not fair to inflict as a first name just because you met there.

herbygarden · 01/01/2023 21:35

Sorry @SaraAppleseed I have two young children and would think of Everest from Paw Patrol. It's not a bad connection though I guess?

Adultchildofelderlyparents · 01/01/2023 21:35

Everest doesn't sound particularly male or female to me so why not just use Everest Archer for either boy or girl?

Or just use Archer for either boy or girl?

Everest means something to you and your partner because you met there, but it will mean nothing to your child because they haven't been there. Seems awkward to be landed with a name so unique but which the child isn't connected to themselves.
At least Archer has a connection - it's their family name through your side.

ButterflyOil · 01/01/2023 21:36

Don’t you think the name you give your child should be about them though? Something special name wise to commemorate where you and your partner met is for you and him, the name you give your child will be with them for their own unique life, so why not choose a lovely name that works well with the surname and that you think a child would like to carry with them into adulthood and save the Everest stuff for your wedding anniversary or similar?

Ducksurprise · 01/01/2023 21:38

I like Archer for a girl or boy.

Archer Everest ...

Or Chomolungma?

Wonnle · 01/01/2023 21:39

How's about Base Camp ?

Made me think of replacement windows TBH

cowsaysmoo · 01/01/2023 21:40

I love it and I love Evie. Go for it!

Whinge · 01/01/2023 21:03

If you really want to use it then please consider it as a middle name. You might like the thought of an unusual name, but your daughter might not want her name to be a conversation starter, hear constant references to paw patrol and unkind comments about Mount Everest.

This

ShillyShallySherbet · 01/01/2023 21:42

It’s nice because it has meaning for you but I also think it would be better as a middle name.

Unicorn717 · 01/01/2023 21:45

Paw patrol.

Also wouldn't like it if I knew I would be named after the place my parents met.

AChristmasCaro · 01/01/2023 21:48

Windows and a sex gag. Definite no from me.

Username6194 · 01/01/2023 21:49

I quite like it actually. Although I think of it as a boy name. Not that it really matters.

The Nepalese name for Everest is Sagarmatha. Martha could be an option for a girl and a little less in your discrete than naming your child after the actual place you met.

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 01/01/2023 21:50

@SaraAppleseed - I say this someone who was up for calling her children Blencathra and Mikledore..... but Everest has so many other connotations, it would be an awkward first name.

Mine and DD's middle names are place manes that are meaningful to our parents. Mine is bloody awful, but DD os fortunate enough that her place-name-name is also a not-uncommon actual-girls-name. I'd definitely use Everest as a middle name, or one of the mountain's alternative names, or Tenzing, Norway, Edmund, Hillary, Lukla

shortandpaleandoldandugly · 01/01/2023 21:51

Why not change your own name to Everest in tribute and spare your poor child the ridiculous name?

BlueThomas · 01/01/2023 21:51

SaraAppleseed · 01/01/2023 20:59

I thought so too. It’s unusual yes but it’s a conversation starter.

Agreed @SaraAppleseed your child will have a wonderful time explaining her parents met on Everest and for reasons best known to themselves decided to lump their beloved child with the name of where they met, over and over and over again for her whole life.. I mean why? Is it because you think you’re super cool to have met on Everest? If someone called their child Nando and explained they met in a Nando’s would you say oh what a lovely idea?

shortandpaleandoldandugly · 01/01/2023 21:52

We met in the local town hall. Maybe we should have gone for Townie?

PermanentTemporary · 01/01/2023 21:53

I just think double glazing as well.

Love Parvati.
