Honest Thought's on ‘Tabitha’?

MummaR94 · 17/12/2022 19:50

So I’m currently 25 weeks with our 4th!!!!
After much deliberation I’ve really settled on the name Tabitha but have had a real mixed bag of reactions from people regarding the name!

We’ve not told anyone that’s what we’ve chosen but just mentioned it when people have asked what names we like….

Now im not normally one to be too hung up on peoples opinions but Tabitha seems to really unsettle a lot of people! The main issue is I just don’t want to give her a name that she has trouble with when she’s older despite how much my husband and I love it!

She’s our gorgeous rainbow baby so one of her middle names will be either felicity/ Iris then Rose afterwards I.e Tabitha Felicity Rose.

Our other children are George, Tobias and Primrose so wanted another name in keeping and really feel that Tabitha sits so well!

Just very torn on what to do!

I love it!

barbrahunter · 17/12/2022 19:51

I think it's a cute name.

Nowisthemonthofmaying · 17/12/2022 19:52

What's wrong with it? Nice traditional name, some cute nicknames...

UpToMyElbowsInDiapers · 17/12/2022 19:52

It strikes me as quite old fashioned, but also very pretty. The one and only Tabitha I know is young, vibrant, hilarious, and exceptionally kind, so I now have very positive associations when it comes to the name.

It doesn’t lend itself to any rude nicknames that I can think of. If it works with your last name and you and your DH love it, I think you should go for it!

icegoose · 17/12/2022 19:53

Dd is a teen and has always liked it.
It has never caused any issues.

AudTheDeepMinded · 17/12/2022 19:53

Why on earth do you care what anyone else thinks?

ArtichokeAardvark · 17/12/2022 19:54

I love Tabitha and it was always the name I wanted for my DD. I then married a man with a 4 syllable surname and it would just have been far too much of a mouthful so we didn't use it. Have always considered it my 'name that got away' though!

Tabitha Felicity Rose is beautiful, as long as your surname is fairly short.

MummaR94 · 17/12/2022 19:55

The main thing is everyone saying how it’s a cats name and some even insinuated it would be unfair on her to call her that! So I guess that just got me over thinking really appreciate all the feedback x

It’s a lovely name. A bit similar to Tobias - is that what’s putting people off maybe? I don’t think that should be a deal-breaker if you really love it.

2tired2bewitty · 17/12/2022 19:55

It’s lovely and fits well with your others. I guess you’d have to be ok with her possibly being Tabby at some point though, particularly if your Tobias is known as Toby.

Luredbyapomegranate · 17/12/2022 19:56

It’s nice. Makes me think of Bewitched.

It’s fairly popular

LadyKenya · 17/12/2022 19:57

I have only met one Tabitha, so it is not a common name. I do not think it is that nice a name. What is important is that you like it.

CouldYouGetRid · 17/12/2022 19:58

My Tabitha is 11 and I still love her name ❤️

Workawayxx · 17/12/2022 19:59

I love Tabitha but not keen on “tabby” as nn so wouldn’t have used myself. If your others get full names used then I think it’s fine. I have a dd with an 3 syllable name and she doesn’t so far (at 2) get shortened.

toastofthetown · 17/12/2022 20:04

I like Tabitha, but not as a sister to Tobias. The Tob- and Tab- starts are too similar for my tastes. I'd wonder if you'd run out of name inspiration and just started rehashing your older children's names (a la the Radford family).

There are consistently a couple of hundred girls called Tabitha each year in England and Wales, so I wouldn't worry about it being too out there. I feel Primrose is more divisive that Tabitha if that helps.

OverCCCs · 17/12/2022 20:08

I think it’s very usable. I do get a slight “witchy” vibe from it, and I’m not sure if that’s from pop culture or I’m unknowingly associating it with something like the Salem Witch trials. But I expect that would vanish extremely quickly and Baby Tabitha would immediately own her name. Go for it!

BuffaloCauliflower · 17/12/2022 20:10

Love it, was on the list for this baby. I do think it goes with your other children's names too.

Myeyeballsareonfire · 17/12/2022 20:12

I love it, and it was also a high contender for my baby #4. Had a boy though so didn’t use it.

I think it goes beautifully with your other names.

I hope the rest of your pregnancy goes well!

Olivia199 · 17/12/2022 20:12

I absolutely love this name. And congratulations!

Passmethecrisps · 17/12/2022 20:13

I think it’s fabulous. I have only ever met one and my DH and I both said later that we missed a trick with that name. I think it is perfect with your other children’s names and the middle names

wheresmyshoe · 17/12/2022 20:14

It's one of my favourite names. I like the flow with your chosen middle names too.

Blendandmix · 17/12/2022 20:15

I love it! I have a 1 year old and haven't met another one! I really like it and it goes well with your other baby names xx

BridgetJonesDaiquiri · 17/12/2022 20:15

Love the name! But you have to be ok with Tabby and Toby together

Anewhoo · 17/12/2022 20:16

Love it, that’s my cat’s name

feellikezerobucks · 17/12/2022 20:18

I have one, she a Tabs x
