Constance
Mercy
Faith
Hope
Joy

If you love any not on this list then feel free to say them too! I am really into virtue names recently, I seem to love the Puritan vibe! Anyone else? 😄

Hostage to fortune right there if Joy turns out to be a miserable little sod, Hope is constantly whinging and Constance has a revolving door of boyfriends/girlfriends/jobs.

Still, at least you aren't proposing to saddle them with Temperance, Chastity and Patience. Are you? tell me you're not.

If you want a Puritan vibe, what's wrong with Praise God or If Christ Had Not Died For Thee, eh?

I hate virtue names, but Hope and Joy are actually nice

MrsDanversGlidesAgain · 14/11/2022 13:39

Serious answer - Faith. But I think virtue names are just opening the child to a lifetime of 'well, you aren't at all like your name, are you?'

Rauha · 14/11/2022 13:40

Constance

SkylightSkylight · 14/11/2022 13:40

I don't like virtue names, but if I HAD to chose one it would be Grace.

LadyApplejack · 14/11/2022 13:40

Not keen on any of those but I quite like Prudence (would use Prue!)

PinkHeadphones · 14/11/2022 13:41

Faith, then Hope.

PineappleWilson · 14/11/2022 13:42

Hope or Faith, but since seeing Horrible Histories I've always had a soft spot for Feargod too.

pimlicoanna · 14/11/2022 13:52

Same as another poster the only virtue name I like is Grace. I didn't like any of those on the list.

NannyR · 14/11/2022 13:58

I always think of the TV series Drop the Dead Donkey, where the character Joy was as miserable as sin! It makes me think that it's a hard name to live up to.
I love Hope, and I met a tiny baby yesterday at church called Rejoice which I thought was beautiful.

NoHeavenNoMore · 14/11/2022 13:59

I love Hope. Was on our shortlist. I really like Joy too

hanahsaunt · 14/11/2022 14:00

Constance, probably, and I also like Honour (Honor?).

PurpleBrocadePeacock · 14/11/2022 14:01

Constance (but I have a soft spot for Mercy too)

caitlinrose · 14/11/2022 14:02

Hope because it puts no pressure or expectations on the child.

Mercy just makes me think of "have mercy" and the French "merci".

Constance is too heavy and old for a baby and a bit bland.

Faith - is fine but very religious sounding.

Joy - is okay. I personally think it symbolises the joy of the parents and doesn't mean a Joy must always be joyful.

AltheaVestr1t · 14/11/2022 14:05

I am not keen on Constance or Faith, as these sound like very antiquated virtues to aspire to, and mercy just makes me think of the Steven King book. I do like Hope and Joy though!

Aquamarine1029 · 14/11/2022 14:09

None. I've known 5 Joys, they are all completely joyless.

NCFT0922 · 14/11/2022 14:10

Probably faith.

hope reminds me of the little murdered child called hope in coronation street. Joy was the name of my miserable consultant in my 2nd pregnancy. Joy by name, not by nature 😂

Claretmum · 14/11/2022 14:12

I like Faith.

My son knows a Fortune, a Marvellous and a Divine!

Claretmum · 14/11/2022 14:13

Hope makes me think of the awful kid on Corrie. Sorry.

Sandysandwich · 14/11/2022 14:18

Of all of them I would probably pick Hope but I knew twins called Faith and Hope when I was at primary school, where I grew up they were always pronounced Faif an' Ope

WordtoYoMumma · 14/11/2022 14:19

I love Hope and Faith. Not keen on the others

JurassicShay · 14/11/2022 14:25

Mercy, I don't like any of the others but love Mercy!

kingtamponthefurred · 14/11/2022 14:26

Felicity?

theseriousmoonlight · 14/11/2022 14:27

Constance. Can be shortened to Connie.

It's my dd1's middle name so I am biased

DrivingHomeForChristmaaargh · 14/11/2022 14:27

I like them all except Mercy (Mercy Dulbottle) and Faith (Faith Brown).
