Constance
Mercy
Faith
Hope
Joy

If you love any not on this list then feel free to say them too! I am really into virtue names recently, I seem to love the Puritan vibe! Anyone else? 😄

Love Faith and Hope. Can’t get on board with Joy, it’s such a hostage to fortune - the Joy I know is perpetually miserable, probably because of her name, lol.

AntiqueCestChic · 14/11/2022 17:41

Love Honor, Hope and Constance!

mongoosebaby · 14/11/2022 17:58

Clemency 😍😍😍 I really wanted this but DH hated it 😞

fairycupcakes · 14/11/2022 18:55

@FayCarew Yeah I thought it might be! Wasn’t quite sure but I guess Honour/Honor could be used! And yeah I agree - I think it’s a nice one for the middle spot :)

Then why not go for Courage, Resilience, Independence, Strength?,

Well those are just other virtues. None of which are superior to those that important to me, and which I listed. Not inferior either. Just different, although I’d argue that a lot of the virtues that I listed actually also involve those virtues that you listed. I think it takes great courage to have a strong faith, for example. It takes a strength of character to have hope against all odds and find the joy in the every day. I think it’s much harder to be merciful than it is to be independent, and so on.

The virtues I listed and important to me and they’re also beautiful sounding names with a strong history behind them, which I also like. I don’t feel that your virtues are any more important than those that I listed and I also don’t think that they sound nice as names.

But that’s just my opinion. Of course, you’re welcome to use those names if those are the virtues that are important to you, and if you like them as names!

And I will choose from the list of virtues that are important to me that I also like as names.

So… that’s why ☺️

Yes I really do like it! Do you have any ideas for middle names yet?

I don’t! Any suggestions? ☺️

I quite like Faith and Joy, but I know someone called Joy who was known for being a right moaner and got stuk with the moniker "no joy" which would put me off.

Olivetreebutter · 15/11/2022 05:37

If it's the meaning that is important how about:
Allegra - Italian, meaning happy/jaunty
Ada - German, happy
Beatrice - English, she who brings happiness
Blythe - English, happy, cheerful, free of care.

(According to Google anyway!)

Precious and Blessings

Spookypig · 14/11/2022 15:09

Because I think they’re all symbols of incredible strength and good character 😊 And beautiful sounding as well, of course!

If it’s strength and good character you want, just call her She-Ra.

numberthirtytwowindsorgardens · 15/11/2022 07:14

I used to think Mercy was a really weird name, but then I taught one (who was lovely), and now I think it's a beautiful name.

So the moral of the story is: whichever name you pick will become your lovely child, and people will love it for them, even if it initially seems strange to them.

Congratulations Flowers

Notplayingball · 15/11/2022 07:15

Faith

PritiPatelsMaker · 15/11/2022 07:40

I like Mercy OP, you're not alone.

And I didn't know Ada meant happy. My DGM was an Ada and whilst she didn't quite light up a room she was very content with her life and there's a lot to be said for that.

DespicabIeMe · 15/11/2022 07:53

Hope.

carefulcalculator · 15/11/2022 07:54

I like Faith and Hope only.

lurchermummy · 15/11/2022 08:12

I like Hope it's a lovely name but I'd depends on your surname. Not keen on prudence sorry. Grace is quite a common name although it's pretty.

17caterpillars1mouse · 15/11/2022 13:18

I like Faith best from your list, but then I have 'saddled' my own DD with a name a previous poster has said not too :)

I also really like Prudence and Comfort

PritiPatelsMaker · 15/11/2022 18:57

Forgot to add that Hope is very definitely associated with Coronation Street for a lot of people.

Smallonesaremorejuicy · 15/11/2022 18:58

Joy is wonderful.I also really like Honor .

Josette77 · 15/11/2022 18:59

My middle name is Hope. I like it. 🌷

MrsDanversGlidesAgain · 15/11/2022 19:01

Beatrice - English, she who brings happiness

My paternal GM was called Beatrice. Talk about being misnamed.

PorridgewithQuark · 15/11/2022 19:12

Constance could be Connie so I think that's the best choice - you need to give the child some wiggle room for when they get sick of everyone telling them they don't live up to their name and they're a self conscious teen.

Avoid unshortenable incontrovertible faith names if it's important to you that they live up to them as there's no better guarantee when they'll inevitably grow up to be a life long atheist and have to wear their name ironically or change it by deed poll). Otherwise they'll need a middle name they can use.

custardbear · 15/11/2022 19:22

Constance, Stancy for short

MissHavishamsMouldyOldCake · 15/11/2022 19:36

Stancy? Goodness me.
