Dated. Seems very 80s to me

SallyWD · 26/10/2022 10:30

Nice and refreshing

SummaLuvin · 26/10/2022 10:55

very 70's. But even outside of that I don't think it sounds nice.

Beamur · 26/10/2022 10:57

I think it's lovely. A sophisticated name. I always imagine someone very elegant with this name.

toastofthetown · 26/10/2022 11:01

Very dated to me. I also don’t like Steph or Stevie as nicknames.

lentilly · 26/10/2022 11:02

Nice, will get shortened to Steph

Michellexxx · 26/10/2022 11:03

I love it

Lillygolightly · 26/10/2022 11:14

One of my DDs has Stephanie as part of her name. I always think it sounds very elegant and lovely without being twee if you know what I mean.

SunshineClouds1 · 26/10/2022 11:15

I like the full name, don't like Steph

ncforyetanotherone · 26/10/2022 11:16

Ooh beautiful. Don't agree with anyone who says it's dated, I love it

Pinkysunset · 26/10/2022 11:16

Think it’s lovely- and not over used atm

IHateWasps · 26/10/2022 11:23

It's a very unattractive name.

HaveYouSeenNancy · 26/10/2022 11:26

I love it, it's classy and elegant. I'm not keen on Steph as a nickname though.

Lovely. Yes, I think it has a classic elegant sound but isn’t twee at all.

Like it and nn Steph or Stevie. Cool name with rocknroll connotations for me.

Woodywood · 26/10/2022 11:58

Interesting that some find it dated.
I’m early 30s and know very few, but the few I do know span generational lines so I hadn’t pinned it as a specific date range name.

Blahburst · 26/10/2022 11:59

It’s a great name

toastofthetown · 26/10/2022 12:08

This table here is why people are saying they find Stephanie dated. This is the historical name data every ten years between 1904-2014 in England and Wales, with Stephanie highlighted. It rose through the top hundred in the 1970’s and 1980’s, peaked in the 1990’s and had completely dropped out of the top hundred by the 2000’s count. The Darkgreener website has the tail end of this from 1996 onwards shows a precipitous drop and fall from thousands of Stephanie’s born each year to under a hundred.

Yes it was popular for late 70's early 80's babies, but it's a nice name. I say reclaim it, and agree the nn's Stevie and Steffie are both lovely.

parrotonthesofa · 26/10/2022 12:30

I love it!

Woodywood · 26/10/2022 12:33

Thanks for sharing that. Does it give numbers it was used for in those years or just their position?
Looks like it peaked at 25 which is why I ask

I know a little girl called Stephanie. Even so, the name does feel a bit dated. I like it though - especially the nn Stevie!

How old is the LO you know?
My fear with people finding it “dated” is that LO will as well and feel like it’s a “mum name” and therefore hate it 🙈
