Just that, what are people’s thoughts on the name Stephanie?

OP posts:

Love it! Also love Stevie as a nickname.

SteveBuscemisRheumyEye · 26/10/2022 21:04

Oh! Mumsnet!

I love how "Lisa" on another thread is absolutely lauded, but "Stephanie" is dated.

OP, you'll get no useful info, here.

(Congratulations ☺️)

I like it. Friends DD is known as Stephie

Pieceofpurplesky · 26/10/2022 21:04

As in Steffie

Fynix · 26/10/2022 21:07

It's a great name, all the best people have that name Wink

So outing but first time I've seen my name on here 🤣 I can't believe I have a mum name apparently!

And I'm only ever Stephanie when I'm in trouble.

Haha I'm only a Stephanie when in trouble too

LadyMonicaBaddingham · 26/10/2022 21:10

Lovely. Unusual by now and pleasant sounding.

Disclaimer: biased because it's my best friend's name

Kittybelle123 · 26/10/2022 21:20

Great name on its own. Every Stephanie and Steph I've met has been lovely Smile Love Stevie, super cool. Never, ever heard of it being shortened to Fanny (??!) Confused

Hohofortherobbers · 26/10/2022 21:24

I like it, about time it came back round

Jaybird43 · 26/10/2022 21:25

I knew a Stephanie years ago and she smelled like fairy liquid, so for me it’s not a good name!

mathanxiety · 26/10/2022 21:39

The two Stephanies I know are in their mid 50s (born in the 60s and named after Stephanie of Monaco).

Magicshoppingtrolley · 26/10/2022 21:46

I know a couple of young Stephanies . One aged 12 and another 2 year old. Gorgeous and classic name, and never going to be 1 of 3 in a class. I put it alongside Charlotte, Elizabeth and Caroline. All timeless names imo.

TheOGCCL · 26/10/2022 21:53

I know four Stephanies in their thirties and forties (two are American). I think it's a lovely name.

Kanaloa · 26/10/2022 21:58

It’s a nice enough name. Not to my taste but there’s nothing wrong with it and those ‘dated’ names actually seem refreshing nowadays. I knew a little Nicole a while ago and with all the Avas and Ellas she stood out.

Furnitureflipper · 26/10/2022 21:59

It's a beautiful name that will stand out.

StudentMumTo3 · 26/10/2022 23:25

It's a lovely name, with Greek roots. It's timeless.

It was more popular in the 70s/80s but lots of the 'classic' and popular names from that period are coming back (Charlotte, Emily, etc).

I know a couple of very young children called Stephanie. One is always Stephanie. The other is Stevie.

And I know a teen who goes by Steffie.

grannyjacob · 26/10/2022 23:59

Stephanie is my daughter’s name, she’s 48. She’s Steph to everyone including me. She wasn’t named after anyone male or female. However, her Dad (my ex) wanted a name that began with S.

DramaAlpaca · 27/10/2022 00:15

Immediate thought: hmm, that's dated

Then I think about it a bit more: it's actually quite nice, and it was probably never popular enough to be defined as dated

Suddenly realise: you know what, I actually really like it - with Stevie for short

TidyDancer · 27/10/2022 00:23

I really like it. It's a beautiful name. I would definitely use it.

leccybill · 27/10/2022 06:44

I really wanted it for DD 12. DH said no so we compromised and went for Bethany as it was the sing-song 3 syllables that I liked really.

Girlsontour · 27/10/2022 06:49

Stephanie is a lovely name and hardly used any more so she will stand out in a sea of Islas, Evies, Amelias and Willows.

ArcticSkewer · 27/10/2022 06:52

It's the kind of name that middle age men seem to choose when completing their journey to their new, feminine, self.

EstellaRijnveld · 27/10/2022 06:56

I know a little baby Stephania and a lady in her 50’s called Stephanie who is lovely.

Noodge · 27/10/2022 06:58

Stephanie=Fanny is a French thing I think?

I don't know when Fanny=Vulva became a thing but I think 'Fanny' would be quite a nice word if not for that connotation!

I love the name Stephanie, never met one I didn't like. The youngest one I know is 38 though.

I came across the name 'Clattila' the other day and thought it was lovely but everyone was saying her name would be shortened to 'clit'!

IDidntWearASmileToday · 27/10/2022 07:13

I'm 32 and my closest friend (same age) is called Stephanie, her DH and I both call her Steph but she is also known by her full name. I absolutely love it and would potentially use it on a child as either first or middle name.
