Just wondered what peoples thoughts are on a baby girls name - Truly. I absolutely love it but husband isn't convinced... xxx

Scrumptious springs to my mind too.

bleedinheckitscold · 21/10/2022 19:39

I will put myself out there and say I actually think it's a very cute name, it sounds nice when you say it. I think a baby Truly would be extra cute.

It's definitely much nicer than many of the other "out there - new wave" names these days, it's nicer than some of the boring old traditional names too.

A name is just a word anyway, why are there rules on what can and can't be a name?
I would also would be happy to be called Truly myself.

BUT, there is absolutely no way I would be able to get my husband to agree to it

I've a relative named Truly and it really suits her.

She sometimes gets the Scrumptious thing but laughs it off. Not a big deal.

She is unique.

Occassionally gets called Trudy but again, not a big deal.

We all love her name. She is successful and very secure in her self. It's never held her back.

So go for it if you like it.

HailAdrian · 21/10/2022 21:36

As usual, everyone is really overthinking it. I knew a Truly and she didn't experience any of this stuff.

AllPlayedOut · 21/10/2022 21:46

How many people called Truly are out there so that half of the people on this thread know one? Or do you all know the same one?

Marcipex · 21/10/2022 21:48

Honor or Honora?
or Verity (although I know one called Ferrety)

Ferrety?! 😲😖

Why have a child at all if you're going to treat them as a freaking joke from day one? Some parents are heartless

Ferrety? Surely not, that's really unfair.

It's like calling your child Very or Bloody or Totally. 'Congratulations, Literally Hancock, you're our new Prime Minister.'

Tbf MN has been obsessed with the name Utterly recently.

Sorry I mean, Ottilie.

Marcipex · 21/10/2022 22:12

I don’t think Ferrety’s parents call her that, her colleagues do.

However I know a Harriet nn Ratty by her family which I think is quite cute.

Marcipex · 21/10/2022 23:07

@ADadadadaLikeThisInTheBackground or the yooneek Otterly 😆

Otillie is an actual name, albeit French.

Truly is a random adverb.

Not comparable.

MayISuggestSomeThickCutSteakChipsToGoWithThat · 22/10/2022 00:00

Truly RIDICULOUS!!

Luredbyapomegranate · 22/10/2022 01:00

Dear god no.

It’s as bad as story. It’s is incredibly low rent.

Kanaloa · 22/10/2022 01:03

SleepingStandingUp · 21/10/2022 18:10

Truly what?

Hi, this is Truly
Truly what?
My daughter.
She's truly your daughter?
No she's Truly and she's my daughter.
What??

Trudy is nice.

😂

I love that you’d never be able to introduce her without sounding like you’d just kidnapped her. ‘This is Truly my daughter. She’s my daughter… Truly. Honestly I promise she’s mine.’

Smallonesaremorejuicy · 22/10/2022 01:04

Nope .

illtryohelp · 22/10/2022 01:04

Tula

Because otherwise we’d have kids named Box and Chacha-Slide and Truly. However you twist it people in the UK generally don’t name their children random English words.

toomuchlaundry · 22/10/2022 01:21

What’s your DD1’s name @blossomstar

Indeed, that's why the joke works.

Isn't that a handbag company?

Seashor · 22/10/2022 21:23

I’ve taught a Truly and the scrumptious part was used almost daily. I can only imagine how bloody tedious it was for her.

CruelworldKindwords · 23/10/2022 11:25

I love it. It's a beautiful name.

Theskyisfallingdown · 23/10/2022 15:45

Is your other kid called blossomstar by any chance?

Enko · 23/10/2022 23:15

I like it. But I do think scrumptious when I first hear it.

It's pretty though.
