Just wondered what peoples thoughts are on a baby girls name - Truly. I absolutely love it but husband isn't convinced... xxx

It's a name in the same way Pussy (Galore) or Christmas ('only comes once a year' Jones) is a name - to be a punchline in a film script for a character. It's not something you'd foist on an actual human being. Who would have to spend her whole life going, 'ha ha yes, as in Scrumptious, I know, pregnancy hormones, I guess.'

WhoppingBigBackside · 21/10/2022 16:27

There have been about 45 of them registered in the past 10 years.

KangarooKenny · 21/10/2022 16:29

I love it ❤️

AllPlayedOut · 21/10/2022 16:30

Absolutely not. It's utterly ridiculous. Twee and just awful.

I now have Truly Scrumptious stuck in my head and probably will have for the rest of the day.

SD1978 · 21/10/2022 16:32

Only ever seen it on sister wives, an American show about polygamy.

EvelynBeatrice · 21/10/2022 16:33

What a shame! It is pretty, but yes, the scrumptious Chitty bang bang thing. If you like the meaning and not just the sound, there is Verity.
I also know a girl 'Perry' (short for Persephone - Greek family connections) which has a similar vibe. Ruby, Sylvie, Tilly?

RandomMusings7 · 21/10/2022 16:35

It's not a name. Stop trying to make it into one. Sounds ridiculous

caroleanboneparte · 21/10/2022 16:36

Try Verily instead.

AriettyHomily · 21/10/2022 16:45

Kardashian

blossomstar · 21/10/2022 16:55

😂😂😂😂😂 Christ almighty. Absolutely no chance I'll be mentioning DD1 name 😂😂😂😂😂

It's not just for a baby though. She'll be an adult most of her life and it's really not a great choice for a woman.

This is what people don't factor in. They name a baby, not a person with a future.

Madly?
Deeply?

KitKatKit · 21/10/2022 17:00

It's bloody ridiculous actually. You'll end up calling them Tru/True anyway, so just name them that to begin with.
If you like the "T" how about Trinity, Teresa, Tessa, Tyler?

I actually knew a Truly Scrumptious. Poor girl was bullied.

Cornettoninja · 21/10/2022 17:04

I quite like it, but then I’ve known quite a few people from other countries like SA where names like this are pretty common so maybe I’m just a bit more conditioned to it. Nigeria had a prime minister called Goodluck. 🤷‍♀️

hotdiggetydog · 21/10/2022 17:09

Absolutely shite

Biscuitsneeded · 21/10/2022 17:15

Does she have sisters called Mildly, Excessively, Slightly and Moderately? The problem is, OP, it might sound nice but it means something. Objectively the word 'Chlamydia' sounds nice (rhymes with the lovely name Lydia) but you wouldn't call a person it! Also, what if she grows up to be old-fashioned and wants to taker her spouse's surname, and spouse's surname is something like Smellie or Thicke??

If you like the meaning of it, go for Verity. If it's the sounds you like, go for Trudy or Ruby or Julie or Lucy or even make up a name like Loulie - but steer clear of Goolie.

I used to care for a little girl named Lucky. Also knew a little girl named Gold. I’m aware in Thailand it’s also usual for children to have nicknames which are just random words like Pepsi or Bank.

The difference is those names are the norm in those cultures. Truly isn’t really a commonly used name here, and it does have odd associations.

HaveringWavering · 21/10/2022 17:20

Do you like it because of Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, or did you hear the name somewhere else first?

PS someone said Verity means the same, but the direct equivalent would be to name your child Veritably 😂

nokitchen · 21/10/2022 17:46

I think it's fine. One of the children in the tv show Sister Wives is called Truly.

AllPlayedOut · 21/10/2022 17:48

I'm not sure that's a recommendation.

WhoppingBigBackside · 21/10/2022 17:49

Yours truly,

It reminds me of an estate agents (I think) called Wright-Manley. I imagined a testosterone-filled office.
