Boyfriend thinks my top 3 names are silly, are there any similar?

So I have a top 3 for boys and a top 3 for girls but I can't get my boyfriend on board with any of them!

Boys are Hayes, Archer and Abel.

Girls are Amelie, Nora and Jovie.

He hates them all and refuses to flex. When we named our first child it took forever to come to an agreement on his name, so I just know its going to be a struggle all over again! Any help is appreciated.

I don't like any of the boys names.

I like Nora for a girl.

Coldhandscoldheart · 10/10/2022 12:00

What’s he come up with?

Kentgirl2525 · 10/10/2022 12:01

Boys names are awful 😂 sorry! Btw Hayes is a place, there are 2 in/around London.

Amelie and Nora are lovely.

SarahTTCx · 10/10/2022 12:05

@Coldhandscoldheart absolutely nothing! The only girl name he likes is Olivia but we know 7 little Olivias. Boys names he can't think of anything other than the middle name John, which I don't love but its his late uncles name

Asher
Austin

Emilia
Dora
Evie

SarahTTCx · 10/10/2022 12:06

@Kentgirl2525 thats okay, everyone has different opinions! Hayes is a family name (my great nana's surname) and I always thought it would be a nice nod to her, but can see why its a bit marmite!

It's not your job to come up with other names, than the ones you like! If he doesn't like them he needs to come up with names & you get to say yes or no.

how did you resolve it last time? What is your DC's name?

it's not outing unless you've just picked random letters!

postcardpuffin · 10/10/2022 12:11

Archie?

For girls, what about Jodie/Josie? Thea/Theodora?

Henddraig · 10/10/2022 12:16

Haydn instead of Hayes? Hayes is a bit of a hard name to wear - it’s like being called Croydon.

i quite like Abel - not miles away from Noah which is super popular now. Maybe you’d like other biblical names like Ezekiel, Gabriel, Nathaniel, Zachariah?

Your girls names are nice though I’ve not heard of Jovie before.

KingJulien · 10/10/2022 12:20

I like Nora, it’s on my shortlist. I have an Amelia so like Amelie too.
Honestly, you’ve done your part, he should be making some suggestions so you at least know the types of names he likes.

MintJulia · 10/10/2022 12:21

Sounds like your do is more traditional than you and you need something that goes with John, so maybe two or more syllables. Maybe ...

@TooMuchToDoTooLittleInclination our ds is Sullivan. We just went back and forth on lists upon lists until we agreed on Sullivan and that was that. We both love his name so i'm glad we got there in the end.

Last time he had a few suggestions (Connor, Lewis for boys and Isabella and Olivia for girls) but I wasn't too keen on any just as we know so many people with those names so he just gave up. But then hates all of my ideas! Very annoying!

I like Archer. But consider Arthur, Andrew, Angus (none of which I like myself, but you might).
Amelie is the number one name at the moment which would automatically make it a no for me.
Emily, Emma, Helena perhaps?

SatinHeart · 10/10/2022 12:34

Agree with pp you each need to come up with a top 10 list. It shouldn't just be you doing all the work and him sitting there dismissing all your suggestions. We bought a name book and each went through it separately from start to finish. Then compared our lists.

WaltzingWaters · 10/10/2022 12:38

I don’t like the boys names but true girls names are nice

KangarooKenny · 10/10/2022 12:39

Only like Amelie.

hattie43 · 10/10/2022 12:39

The only one I like is Amelie

SarahTTCx · 10/10/2022 12:46

@mondaytosunday Arthur was high up on my list but our best friends just named their baby boy Arthur. He's our Godson so definitely can't steal it! Thanks for the suggestions!

I like Archer and Amelie is beautiful.

To keep on the theme with Sullivan how about a name that is also a surname;

Harrison
Jackson
Carter
Hunter
Logan
Cole
Mason
Riley
Sawyer
Addison
Harper

Lots are popular first names but also surnames and some unisex.

CoffeeBeansGalore · 10/10/2022 12:53

Marcus
Wesley
Cooper
Mitchell
Milton
Rory

Jodie
Juno
Alyssa
Madeleine
Bryony
Skye
Viola

I like them all, my fave boys would be Archer and girls would be Jovie. Super cute. I know that's no help, but I think you have good taste in names lol

Dalekjastninerels · 10/10/2022 13:05

I like Nora and Amelie; but nothing else of what you like.

I like Henrietta Jacinta for a girl and Frederick William for a boy

Amelie is not the number one name, but it does often get mistaken as Amelia 😁

Nora and Archer are my personal faves on your list but I do agree that if he really, really dislikes them you can't strong arm him into having them. He needs to come up with some viable alternatives though!

Biscuitsneeded · 10/10/2022 13:53

I think your boyfriend's choices are all quite late 90s/millennium type names. I agree with you that there are too many Olivias and Isabellas, and unfortunately Connors and Lewises have naughty boy connotations for a lot of people, but maybe you could look at names that were big then that you might actually really like - girls: Hannah, Amy, Megan, Rebecca, Lauren, Laura, Lucy, Sophie? Boys: Cameron, Oliver, Jacob, Callum, Daniel, Harry etc.

Actually I think Cameron really works as it's a surname name too and goes well with Sullivan.
