Boyfriend thinks my top 3 names are silly, are there any similar?

So I have a top 3 for boys and a top 3 for girls but I can't get my boyfriend on board with any of them!

Boys are Hayes, Archer and Abel.

Girls are Amelie, Nora and Jovie.

He hates them all and refuses to flex. When we named our first child it took forever to come to an agreement on his name, so I just know its going to be a struggle all over again! Any help is appreciated.

Sidney (girl or boy)

Anya
Natasha
Lois

I like Amelie but none of the other names. I can see your taste isn't traditional and you'd rather choose something a bit different. Give your DP a baby names book and tell him to come up with his own list and see if there's any compromise.

My list wasn't as alternative as yours but my DH didn't like any of my choices because they were too avant-garde for him. He preferred names like Rebecca and Lauren (this being 2006) whereas I liked names like Cleo, Minerva, Ruby, Daisy and Daphne. I like names from myths and historical figures. Rebecca became DD's middle name. I hate it.

I can't believe he vetoed Abel but he's fine with Sullivan!

AuntieStella · 10/10/2022 14:05

You could use Hayes as a middle name (either sex)?

Others you might like - casting round quite widely!

Albert, Ezra, Roderick, Giles, Louis, Jon, Joel

Emily, Hannah, Antigone, Francesca, Cassie, Greta

@Biscuitsneeded ooh I actually think Cameron could work, you're right it does sound nice with Sullivan!

90s esque girls names i'm not a bit fan of but Cameron is going on the list!

@AuntieStella I do like Ezra a lot but not convinced it goes with Sullivan! Definitely one to consider though

I think Rupert goes quite well with Sullivan. Love your girls names!

Strokethefurrywall · 10/10/2022 14:34

I have a Sullivan, he's 8. His older brother is Carter.

If you like surnames for first names here are my offerings:

Griffin
Elliot
Lachlan
Fraser
Spencer

I really like Jovie for your girls name!

Ihavehadenoughalready · 10/10/2022 14:40

I like Abel and Nora.

How do you pronounce Amelie?

Cuppasoupmonster · 10/10/2022 14:43

I like Amelie, Abel is okay, the rest are a bit silly IMO though.

DH is like this though, hates all the names I suggest but doesn’t come up with anything himself. And when he does it’s something very plain and a little dated like Emily or Michael 🤨

KirstenBlest · 10/10/2022 14:44

Have you been to Hayes?
Archer is awful
Abel is ok but too close to able.

Amelie seems dated, not keen Nora, not heard Jovie before and it sounds made up, made me think of stovies

PleaseYourselfandEatTheCrusts · 10/10/2022 14:46

Hazel
Hayley
Emily
Eve / Eva / Ava
Joan
Mabel
Abigail

Joel
Ashley
Dale
Judd
Arnie
Stanley
Rex

One more vote for Nora. Null points for the rest of them.

Bubblegum88 · 10/10/2022 15:46

there was an app we used that is a bit like tinder but for baby names. You can swipe for names you like or don’t like and then it creates a list for you. Your partner can do the same and then you can link the accounts and it’ll show you names you have in common. Maybe give something like that a try?

LovelyChicken · 10/10/2022 15:48

Bon Jovi

IcakethereforeIam · 10/10/2022 15:50

Jovie...as in Bon Jovi? I suppose babies are slippery when wet. Like the others though.

NotRainingToday · 10/10/2022 15:51

How about Gilbert?

VeridicalVagabond · 10/10/2022 15:57

I actually like Archer and Abel, but wouldn't use them because of Archer the TV show and Abel... Well, the whole murdered brother of Cain thing.

Tell your boyfriend to come up with some if he's going to be so fussy!

How about Gilbert?

Perfect.

slowquickstep · 10/10/2022 16:16

Richard for a boy

TenoringBehind · 10/10/2022 16:21

Amelie and Nora are nice. I think he has a point about the others.

mam0918 · 10/10/2022 16:24

I suprised yor getting a hard time on the boys names, Hayes isnt my taste but not unheard off, Archer is common now and Abel is a classic.

Only one Im not a huge fan of is Nora as its dusty but it still perfectly usable if thats your taste.

I prefer Jovi on a boy than a girl.

mam0918 · 10/10/2022 16:26

Seems a lot of the response here do NOT keep up with the trends in baby names. These names arent wierd, wildly unusual or made up lol.

gluenotsoup · 10/10/2022 16:32

Spencer?
Asa?
Eleanor could be Nora or Nell
