Otto, rollo, Humphrey….or similair

We are due with our little boy (brother to Rupert, Ophelia and Tabitha) but I’m struggling with boys names!

would love suggestions for:
• nicknames for Humphrey (not keen on humps!)
• full name for Rollo (Rowland has been suggested but husband hates it)
• upper class names similair to the above - ideally somethings that slightly unique but not too out there!

Kevin?

Rollo is a name 😂 historical but still a name, and nothing to do with Rowland 🤣 this literally has to be a piss take....those names, talk about notions!!

Ivo?
I don't think I'd have Rollo and Rupert together, and Humphrey will absolutely get called humps

Wombat27A · 05/10/2022 08:21

Erm, the only nn for Humphrey is Humpf.

I think your looking at Tarquin here, given the other names.

Smallonesaremorejuicy · 05/10/2022 08:22

Otto for sure .

Love your current children's names. Your new list is less nice - well, I like Otto but Humphrey and Rollo are awful. Rupert, Ophelia and Tabitha are beautiful (I have a Tabitha so am a little biased there!) and I think I'd feel a bit sorry for a Humphrey or Rollo in comparison! I wouldn't consider Humphrey upper class, rather old fashioned, clunky and a bit ugly. It's like a Gertrude type name. Rollo I'd also not consider upper class. It sounds like the name of a dachshund.

Otto is nice. Other names with a similar feel are, I'd say:
Jago
Barnaby
Digby
Edwin
Lysander
Orlando
Lucien
Cassian
Magnus
Casper

Beautiful names! For Rollo, perhaps Raphael or Rafferty.

I also like Herbert, Septimus, Montgomery, Crispin and Casimir.

tenbob · 05/10/2022 08:34

Ludo?

Rollo is a name, not a nickname

Dreikanter · 05/10/2022 08:44

I can only envisage a Humphrey as an elderly overweight Labrador with a flatulence problem.

Rollo is fine as a full name, it doesn’t need to be a nickname for anything.

Mungo
Tarquin

Torion
Horace
Algernon
Cosmo
Ralph (pronounced the "Rafe" way)
Augustus (Gus)

Hopefully they will be going to school with other similarly-named children and won't get picked on for their "posh" names.

Huxley? Hubert, Hugh, Hugo

upper class names similair to the above - ideally somethings that slightly unique but not too out there!

For ideas for names from people who are similarly trying to make themselves sound like they come from better breeding than they do, try looking at the names Jacob Rees-Mogg has given his children. I believe you'll find what you're looking for there.

LuciaPopp · 05/10/2022 08:59

Well, Rollo is a name in itself but if you prefer it as a NN, how about Orlando? Lovely name and the Italian form of Roland, still very unusual but everyone will know how to say it.

Lysander and Hector would fit well with your other names and have a suitably heroic feel. Ptolemy (Tolly)?

ChagSameachDoreen · 05/10/2022 09:02

They are honestly such awful names - irredeemable!

sunshineamongsttheshitstorm · 05/10/2022 10:52

His name is Jasper or Barnaby, that goes lovely with the other 3!

Thank you for reminding me about King Rollo, I loved that cartoon as a kid!

midsomermurderess · 05/10/2022 16:37

Humphrey. Yes, it’d be a bold choice nowadays but it seems to me to be a happy name. And I think of the lovely Humphrey Goodman in Death in Paradise.

midsomermurderess · 05/10/2022 16:38

‘For ideas for names from people who are similarly trying to make themselves sound like they come from better breeding than they do, try looking at the names Jacob Rees-Mogg has given his children’: jeez, that’s snarky, and chippy.

It is spot on though. It is really weird to choose names that sound 'upper class'.

And a bit depressing.
