This is not meant to be bitchy at all because I LOVE that people do this (subconsciously maybe?). I think most of them haven’t realised or didn’t until a few years after naming their kids! So they’re not really contrived themey names, more coincidental. My own kids accidentally have musicals-related names.

I know siblings:

Fred and Barney (flintstones)
Ariel(la) and Sebastian (little mermaid)
Madeline and Margaret (Maddie and Maggie)
Matilda (Tilly) and Billy
Henry and Harriet (essentially the same name)

and mums and kids:
Ellie and Ollie
Ellie and Belle

I have a Sam and Poppy (now 17 and 15). I didn't know about the Usborne farm books until my DS got one of them for his third birthday from a mum at toddler group who had assumed (along with all the other mums there), that my DC were named after the characters. I ended up buying all the Sam and Poppy books and my DC loved them.
Even now they are older teenagers, people still ask if they are named after rhe books!

I knew twins called Emily and Millie which is basically the same name and DD is at school with someone who has siblings called Harry and Henry- again, isn’t that the same name?

Harry was always the shortened version of Harold, until Prince Henry appeared and got shortened to Harry. 🤷‍♀️

I was shocked at meeting adult twins Dick and Nick until they told me that their parents named them Richard and Nicholas and the rhyming names were their own invention! 🤣

I know brothers Michael, Nicholas, Richard.
Mickey, Nicky, Ricky.
I actually really like that their full names don't sound matchy, but that the optional nicknames do.

Their mother is called Victoria. Yup, Vicky.

I also know a couple whose names begin with D and F. They have four kids whose names begin with A, B, C and E. (Not named in alphabetical order and I truly don't believe it was intentional until kid 4.)

I know a William and an Edward. Bill and Ted (excellent adventure).

KirstenBlest · 18/09/2022 13:15

@wottabargain , Harry AFAIK has been short for Henry since at least the 17th Century, so a bit before Henry Charles Albert David Mountbatten-Windor

pitterypattery00 · 18/09/2022 16:14

Harry was always the shortened version of Harold, until Prince Henry appeared and got shortened to Harry.

My gran's brother, born around 1905, was always known as Harry but I found out through doing family history research that he was Henry on birth certificate. Similarly, her brother Jack was actually John.

mathanxiety · 18/09/2022 19:00

Harry was always the shortened version of Harold, until Prince Henry appeared and got shortened to Harry.

That's not so. It didn't start with Prince Henry/Harry.

Harry has been an affectionate version for Henry ever since Norman French arrived on the island, producing the Harry sound from the French Henri where the N is voiced with the back of the tongue, not the tip.

ninjafoodienovice · 18/09/2022 21:30

We have a Charlie and called the cat Lola 😁
