This is not meant to be bitchy at all because I LOVE that people do this (subconsciously maybe?). I think most of them haven’t realised or didn’t until a few years after naming their kids! So they’re not really contrived themey names, more coincidental. My own kids accidentally have musicals-related names.

I know siblings:

Fred and Barney (flintstones)
Ariel(la) and Sebastian (little mermaid)
Madeline and Margaret (Maddie and Maggie)
Matilda (Tilly) and Billy
Henry and Harriet (essentially the same name)

and mums and kids:
Ellie and Ollie
Ellie and Belle

My DM had cousins who were siblings called Janet and John, and they were born in the 50s or 60s

I don't get it?

Janet and John books were a popular reading scheme back then. That era’s Biff Chip and Kipper!

My nanna was known to us as Mary. She had a sister who was known as Nancy.

However, their real names were Hannah Matilda and Hannah Maria respectively. Why on Earth they were both called Hannah baffles us all!

vroom321 · 14/09/2022 20:19

Ohh I do remember those books but not the babes.

I know twins named Tom and Jerry - they dislike it to this day. Probably because sometimes it takes some time to convince people that they are really called these names and aren't joking.

StressfulBedtimes · 14/09/2022 20:32

I also know siblings called Harry & Henry, I don’t think their parents realise they’re actually the same name 🤦🏻‍♀️

Twins called Antony and Antoniette.
Sibs called Henry and Harriet . I queried this with the grandmother who said they were entirely different names.
Friend’s husband is John Smith . Said her MIL always wanted a son called John and so despite marrying a Mr Smith decided she wouldn’t change her mind.

An acquaintance has five children , the girls have masculine names and the boys have names that are often used for girls, it always puzzles me. Apparently they gave the first girl the name they would have chosen had they had a boy and so felt the other girls should match and because the first boy had a name that could be a girl's the second one had to as well.
