Perspicacious for a boy

I know the practice of giving babies' grace names has fallen out favour, but I've always loved it. Bearing that in mind, I'd love to hear your opinions of Perspicacious for a boy. It means ''having a ready insight into and understanding of things' which are qualities I'd like my child to have. Saying that, I'd appreciate feedback.

Why not call him John and just sign him up for a lifetime subscription to Encyclopaedia Britannica? Win win he gets the chance to buy plastic tat with his name on in a gift shop and reading the encyclopaedia means he is sure to “have a ready insight into and understanding of things”.

My son's called John. All the plastic tat says Oliver.

If plastic tat and uniqueness in naming are key considerations may I suggest Madeinchina as having a nice ring to it.

MrsRobinsonsHandprints · 21/08/2022 08:35

To the pp that said Gordon 😆

PrettyPrim · 21/08/2022 08:36

Christ imagine practising name writing in reception with that. Think his mates Tom and Sam might have a bit of a head start

Whoactuallythinksthat · 21/08/2022 08:37

Perspicacious and his little sisters, Hopeful, Graceful and Patient.

Maireas · 21/08/2022 08:43

@DuneFan - I think Madeinchina has a very good ring to it.

IsItShining · 21/08/2022 08:44

Nah, I think the OP is going the right way with the adjective. Girls get nouns for virtue names (Faith Hope Charity Felicity), boys get adjectives (Clement Pious Felix Innocent).

No, I don’t know why either.

Maireas · 21/08/2022 08:44

Well, he'll certainly stand out among all the Teddys, Albies and Archies.

EntertainingandFactual · 21/08/2022 03:10

Maybe Intrepid, Valorous or illustrious for a middle name?

I’d steer clear of imprudent or fanatical tbh…

I like Invincible, could always shorten to Vince

JustSortYoursefOut · 21/08/2022 08:46

It's bloody ridiculous

SpinCityBlues · 21/08/2022 08:46

Perspicacity Kingdom Brunel is actually quite splendid

allboysmum3 · 21/08/2022 08:48

Definitely wouldn't use that name. Setting him up for a lifetime of cruel name calling.

Maireas · 21/08/2022 08:52

Bloody-Ridiculous Sidebottom
That could work.

Whitehorsegirl · 21/08/2022 09:00

How ridiculous.

Do you really have to ask?

You are about to saddle your child with a silly, really hard to pronounce name and likely to be shortened to something like Percy anyway by the majority of people rather than used in its original form.

Not to mention it will mean endless mocking from other kids when he is at school and a lifetime of having to repeat and spell his name several times time when he introduces himself or gives his contact details to someone...

Not comparable to Hope or Patience either. Those are fairly common names and easy to spell and pronounce.

I mean this one could be the name of a Harry Potter wand spell ....the opposite of the The Confundus Charm...

SpinCityBlues · 21/08/2022 09:01

Or it could be a piss take?

I have recently taught a Majesty, a Prince and a Triumph. I kid you not.

Hesma · 21/08/2022 09:07

I’m not a fan… imagine learning to spell that at school! I’d use as a middle name if you’re dead set on it but please don’t saddle the child with it as a first name, he will be forever correcting the pronunciation and having to spell it out.

Pterodactyl is nicer

Ugly snorted my coffee 😂😂

Triumph?! Please tell me they have a sister called Doreen 😊

Of course it is! Along with some other words used like gestation and cursive in their posts I would say it was/is someone having an extracting the Michael time.

Bumpsadaisie · 21/08/2022 09:20

Nickname Casey? Could work 🤣

Chersfrozenface · 21/08/2022 09:22

The nickname would be Perp, of course, at least in school.

As in US crime shows.

derxa · 21/08/2022 09:24

Well, not you, perspex, 😂
Howling here

Staynow · 21/08/2022 09:28

Call him Perspiration instead, has the same first 6 letters and is actually a recognisable word. Means sweaty which he probably will be as a teenager.

Shlomping1234 · 21/08/2022 09:35

I just tried to pronounce that, and my dog just flew across the living room! Give your child a normal name for fuck sake 🙄

BanjoVio · 21/08/2022 09:41

Sunbird24 · 20/08/2022 23:47

Sounds a bit too much like Perspiration to me…

This was my very first thought. Dreadful.
