Perspicacious for a boy

I know the practice of giving babies' grace names has fallen out favour, but I've always loved it. Bearing that in mind, I'd love to hear your opinions of Perspicacious for a boy. It means ''having a ready insight into and understanding of things' which are qualities I'd like my child to have. Saying that, I'd appreciate feedback.

Can we get married please, and I will happily take young Percy under my wing as step son. GNU.

That is an awesome name!

They might not have burnt us, Katherine Chidley got away with throwing all kinds of shade at men.

But back to Perspicacious. As you can see I'm something of an early modern nerd, so I think it's the perfect name. Is it really so bad in 2022?

It is a terrible name for a secondary school kid, he'll be on the bullies radar with a name like that. If you want a male virtue name, have you considered Victor?

Oh OP I think the pregnancy hormones are going a bit crazy here!

Ita a terrible name full stop. Do not set your child up for a life of bullying before they are even born!

k1233 · 21/08/2022 04:09

I think he'll be known as "pit stain" at school. Perspiration = pit stains.

It's not a good name

User4223131 · 21/08/2022 04:42

Am I the only one that has no idea that name meanings have your child those qualities?! 🤯
Off to change my almost 2 year olds name to “GoodSleeper” 🤞🏼 Hopefully it’s not too late 😅

MrsMop1964 · 21/08/2022 05:38

Or how about Capability after Capability Brown (although his actual given name was Lancelot apparently)

WibblyWobblyLane · 21/08/2022 06:31

I don't like it.

What about Dan?

Gremlinsateit · 21/08/2022 06:35

Perspicacity Lancelot Cholmondeley-Beauchamp has a real ring to it.

What if he's not the sharpest tool in the box?

They'll call him Trigger.

StanleyBostitch · 21/08/2022 06:53

It's a terrible name. It sounds far too similar to 'Perspiration'. Not only are you setting your child up for a lifetime of being laughed at, but you're handing people a easy nickname on a silver platter. Go back to the baby name books...ones with actual names in them.

QuebecBagnet · 21/08/2022 07:09

I like it!

TFMinx · 21/08/2022 07:17

Hahahaha, well I'll give this thread a 6/10 OP.

In the the same way that Felicity shortens to Flick, all I can see is Perspicacious being shortened to Prick.

shiningcuckoo · 21/08/2022 07:24

Have you been using the Gloriavale book of baby names?

SaskiaRembrandt · 20/08/2022 23:27

This is my concern. We have a four syllable surname, and then there's a middle name. Is it too much?

Aye, course you do.

Georgeskitchen · 21/08/2022 07:59

Are you on drugs?

BellePeppa · 21/08/2022 08:02

This is a wind up surely, if not you’re being ridiculous.

Maireas · 21/08/2022 08:07

SaskiaRembrandt · 21/08/2022 00:01

Why would a sober person think anything is funny? Is this a philosophical question? I do hope not, I find philosophy very tedious.

How about Philosophical?

Maireas · 21/08/2022 08:08

WhimsicalGubbins · 21/08/2022 00:26

You want an honest answer?

Ok. I think a name like Perspicacious qualifies as child abuse-and it also qualifies the parent to earn the title ‘pretentious pillock’

Children do NOT develop into the meaning of their names. This isn’t 1482 and we don’t still believe in magic and fairy dust

Well, it sounds as if some do....

JuneOsborne · 21/08/2022 00:09

Think of the teachers.

Day one
Perspec, perspecta, pers {trails off}

Day thirty three
Everyone write their name on their painting. Well, not you, perspex, you just write PJ.

And poor Prospective Perspective is forever more know as Jamas. (For the posh folks, PJ's goes to pyjamas goes to jamas, pronounced jar mers).

Therefore I suggest James. Or Mers.

Good point, has the OP considered the teachers in all of this?

loislovesstewie · 21/08/2022 08:10

As John McEnroe said, 'you cannot be serious!' Your poor child, a lifetime of abuse.

Maireas · 21/08/2022 08:12

You could hyphenate Perspicacious-Perspicacity.
It would go with Jeremiah, and your surname, Mendacious-Trollington-Arss.

loislovesstewie · 21/08/2022 08:14

I thought Morse was named by his father after Captain Cook's ship?
On that basis, there are lots of ( silly) names to chose from.

Maireas · 21/08/2022 08:16

Endeavour is a good name.
As are Patience, Hope, Faith and Charity.

Zezet · 21/08/2022 08:22

Another vote for Pterodactyl from me.

Herejustforthisone · 21/08/2022 08:28

Whadda · 20/08/2022 23:22

There’s a bang of Rees-Mogg off of it.

I’ll say. Maybe some anti-perspicacious will help?
